The Minocqua chain is great otherwise there is squirrel, buckatobon or if you really want to catch some slab smallies try butternut.

There are no bass up here

    First 20″er of the year.

If ya get off the beaten path and fish some of the smaller surrounding lakes there are good bass and plenty of action. I can think a 5 right off my head that would be great for you. But it will cost ya case of Miller lite

I wished I had taken the pic of the 18″ largie (gosh, pushing 4#) I got last night, would have been a great compliment to Greg’s smallie!!! I was actually running a shoreline looking for some leftover walleyes, but caught mostly large with a couple of smallies in between. There are bass up here!!!

    Kevin,

I would either fish Minoqua chain for both largies or smallies. The bite on Mid lake can be great this time of year. If you want some area, then just pm me. Boom lake is good in Rhinelander, Butternut and Franklin are both ggood lakes for monster smallies. Gin clear water, but it can be a great bite.

When are you going to be up there. I will be up in that area the next two weekends for a fishing trip and a bachelor party/fishing trip. Let me know if you need anything else.

If you are going to fish the Boom lake area in Rhinelander fish the river portion. The lake itself is okay for bass fishing, but the river is the place to go for the nice smallies. Good luck.

You cannot get up the river yet because the rice beds are not up so you cannot see where the main channel is. There is a landing in McNaughton if you want to fish the river.
