I was thinking about something the other day while sharing the boat with a more inexpereinced angler. He was amazed at my ability to cast a lure to exactly where i wanted, as well as my ability to skip tubes under docks. It got me thinking, we experienced bass anglers really take for granted our ability to cast on target, also the importance of this, this alone can make a big difference in results when compared to fishing with a more inexperienced angler, i can remember practicing in the back yard for hours when i first started using a baitcaster its just something i seem to never think about

I was thinking the same thing two weeks ago while muskie fishing. I was with a very experience muskie angler and he was talking of my ability to slip lures into very tight spaces, “damn bass fisherman can hit dime at 50 yards” I believe was the statement. I had never given it a second thought. It is the hours and hours of practice that make the difference. It is hard to impress how important it is to inexperienced anglers the need to fish in the yard before going to the water. I still go out in the yard and pitch jigs for fun and much needed practice.

I was folrtunate enough to build a home this past summer. In doing so I made some very calculated changes to the origional design. You guessed it. I made sure my garage had 12 feet of clearance so that all winter I could practive flipping into soup cans… This type of activity has really paid off on calm water.
