This comming Wendesday my wife and I will be married for 3 years. She told me the other night she would like to go on a fishing trip for a couple of days. That was about the best gift ever So I decided since she has never been up to the pool 10 area we would go up there. She wanted to camp overnight but I rented a cabin at Spook Cave campground.

My question is I have only fished pool 10 in August and September. What kind of things should I look for this time of year?? Will fish be holding in the same kind of areas?? If you could help me out on what to try it would be a huge help. If you want you can PM me with areas to try. I am sure I will not be doing any frog fishing like I was last summer.

    Thanks for any help,
    JEremy

Crappies are biting in the backwaters. Find some wood and fish it. Brother-in-law caught alot of nice crappies this last thursday on p10

I heard they were catching numbers up by the float near L&D 9. I’m not sure about size there though. Anywhere you can find some pads or wood they should be on there. Throw swim jigs or spinnerbaits. We caught all of our keepers this past weekend flipping wood. For some big fish you could try Pool 9 as well.

Thanks for your help so far guys. I have a few spots in mind that have some weeds that are almost like the area I have been doing well on pool 13. If the weeds are starting to fill in I am sure I can pull a few with a swimjig.

    How is the water level???

Also is there any place that is really better then others to try and hook up with some smallies?? How about around the Wis. River?? Has anyone been pulling smallies around there?? I am only asking because my wife has never caught a smallie over 8 inches and I would really like to get her on a few. But I will take 17-19″ largemouth all day

    Thanks again everyone,
    Jeremy

You will find Bussey lake (far south end of the pool, not sure how far you would be from it) fishes a lot like Spring Lake and Mickelson’s and there should be weeds up by now. Havent been up there this year but traditionally it is a very good spot for numbers and size.

water level is stable around 8.0 foot. The Wisconsin River has good smallie populations but it’s super shallow. You MIGHT be able to get a flat up it, but definately not a bass boat. Watch out for sand bars. You could probably catch smallies on any rocks on the channel. Cut banks have been producing for me as well right now.

I will be taking my flat boat up for this trip. I have been up the wisconsin before but we did not find any smallies before we could not go any farther.

Well thanks for your help guys, I am leaving in the morning and will be fishing all day Tuesday and until about 1 on Wednesday. I will post how it goes and hopefully some pictures.
