I got myself in trouble this morning with my wife I got off work at 7 am and had the boat hooked up ready to roll out of the drive way at 7:15. She tried to get me to sleep for a few hours but I told her there were fish to catch so she chased me out of the house
With a bad wind for most parts of the river I decided to go to the same areas I fished on Friday. My brother went with me this morning to make sure I stayed awake. We launched the boat at Mickelsons and started fishing that area. I quickly picked up 3 short fish and a 14″ liner. We fished around in there for about 1.5 hours and I ended up pulling 5 more short fish. My brother landed his only fish of the day in there as well.
we then moved to the area I caught the two big fish on Friday in the pads. I quickly caught another short followed by a 16.5″ fish. Five min later I landed another short fish and the very next cast I hooked into a really nice bass but it came unhooked at the side of the boat. She looked to be 18.5″-19″, when she hit she nocked about 2 foot of slack in my line and then ran right at the boat. I just did not get a good hookset We let the wind blow us around in the pads and I picked up short fish just about every 15 cast. I even started making my brother made when I called to fish back to back. I saw them chasing minnows and told him to catch them but he would not throw in there so I had to wack the fish. I almost had a first for pad fishing for me. While I was about to pull my swimjig out of the water I had a big walleye swipe at it. We were in about 1.5 foot of water and in the middle of a pad field. What was he doing in there??
We ended the day back in Mickelsons were I caught two more short fish. About noon we were both wiped from working the night before so we headed for lunch and a couple of and went home for some well needed
I think I ended up with 20 short fish all except one was between 13-14″. Every fish was caught on a home made swimjig. I was using a 1/4 ounce jig that had a black/blue/pumpkin skirt and a black and white head. My brother got his on a black and blue jig.
Sorry no pictures today I forgot the camera in the car .
