We are having A northern bonanza down here, and as MR. Bob’s B&T said yesterday they are places we can’t remember catching them. Unfortunately they are right there with the bass. You catch one bass and then the northern are in the way for 2 hours. What a bore… 23-36 inch gaters beating you up almost all day long. HEY WAIT A SECOND THAT’S ALL I USED FISH FOR. LOOOOL. Seriously though when someone comes 200 miles to catch Bass it is a pain. Does anybody know a bait that the northern won’t bite, that the bass will(that’s assuming they aren’t hiding from the gators).

I was having problems with northerns but the last week or so i havent been bothered by them. Was out last Fri and had a great day.Got several nice fish.I had a friend with me and every place we pulled up to i told him what to use and what we would catch and holly cow!!!!!! it was like i really knew what i was talking about!By the way the only reason i told him what to use is he has never fished that much.We got nice LM & SM nothing real big but all was in the 2 1/2 to 3 pd range .the only stop we made that didnt produce what i told him it would was a northern hole.Every time i stop this place i always cath one of them toothy !%**&^##! fish.

When i was fishing 9 last 2 weeks ago I smoke them snakes,I caught bass around them as well but them toothy bastages would hit anything, flukes, rats, buzz baits and spinnerbaits. It didn’t matter.i even called JC and asked him.

I’d like to hear some answers on this as well!

It was nice to meet the man behind the myth on Saturday Mountain Man. I hope you guys had better luck than we did. We never boated a single bass Saturday. Had a few short hits and we caught a crappie on a tube. I don’t think I have ever struggled as much fishing as I did on Saturday. Sunday We went up to pool 7 and did a whole lot better.

Myth M….y…t….h. I do really exist you know. Just kidding. It’s been quite a while since I have seen so little feeding activity going on. We did get several bass where you saw us and 1 in the slop in the bays kittycorner to the north. Several up in Black River and two or three out on on closing dams. Nothing over 2.5. Also got a walleye and big doggie where you saw us. Also got some northern (big suprise). Your s9n looked like he was having fun.

The one thing I noticed this weekend was that there seems to be a lot more bait fish on 8 than there is on 7. Where ever the bait fish were there was bass there feeding on them but we couldn’t get them to bite. I wished I knew the days that were going to be like Saturday and I would pack more lunch the kid had our lunch ate by 10 and we didn’t leave the water till 4. Good thing Hardees was close by.

Mountain Man, your comment about little feeding activity going on was right on target. Fished Pool 9 for bass this weekend and although we caught some we really had to work for them. (flipping wood and current mostly) I don’t know how many pad and slop fields I surveyed looking for feeding activity and finding very little. I don’t mind catching the bigger northerns though, it can make a tough day a little easier to take. Here’s one from pre-fishing Saturday.

my only suggestion for what its worth would be to focus on some good slop it’s my experience that the bass to northern ratio is a bit better in these areas, i dont know of a bait that gators wont hit

I was on pool nine Saturday , then as I was putting my trolling motor down ’cause I saw some smallies breaking water, I notice that the trolling motor had melted into my Gator Mount … -I just had to try anyways- She was dead. Dead, dead, dead . So, being that I had money in the pocket and had driven four hours, I went fishing anyways .

So, I used the big motor as a trolling motor, firing ‘er up now and then to get where I wanted to go…

Long story short, I was in few areas that were great, but I didn’t catch anything, well all shorties, let me tell ya, hey . So, what’s up with the bass here?

So, after I’ve run out of patience, using the big motor and all, taking my daily inventory, thanking God for all that I have, I get mama on the blower (easy, boys), and I tell’er what’s goin’ on… She says that I should “use your best judgement.” Then she says, “have you noticed that every time you go fishin’ something breaks? ” (I’m thinkin’, yeah.) She then suggest I may wanna “pray about that for direction. ” Yeah, direction to the bow mount store .

So, I got x amount of $; later, when I’m done working today, I’m goin’ a lookin’ for a new trolling motor.

Here’s the deal: Do I buy the Motor Guide or Minkota I want, or do I buy a leftover Evinrude which never breaks, for $300.00 rather than one of the other two for $800.00?

I guess I need to use my “best judgement.”

Hey, how’s your “best judgement” regarding this?

    Thanks,

    OnTheWater

PS Yes, God seems to have seen fit to test me at nearly my every turn. The way I look at it is that I’m tested more ’cause there are those who aren’t ready yet to deal with such tests -hey, it was just a thought!

    OTW,
For what its worth I have had very good luck with MotorGuide and really like the metal chopper blade for cutting through vegetation. You can even sharpen it if you are careful! I would go for the new one over the “rude that is not powerful enough in the current anyway. Good luck whatever way you go.

Man, go with the minnkota! Ive had two motorguides and have had nothing but problems, between gator mounts breaking and bum wiring jobs it was really frustrating! Also they just wrap up the weeds(both had plastic blades, maybe metals are better, dont know). Had 2 minnkotas on two boats and both great machines, go through everything and no problems.

Yeah, Thats what I said! I broke 2 of them just running into some real nasty stuff, and snapped the alluminum clutch channel. Not a fun experience! Its a real bitch to replace and frustrating. Anyways, had a minnkota on my stratos when I sold it and have the same motor on my new champ. Definately the cream of the crop!
