Two Questions

My first question is have any of you had problems with EWG Gami hooks? I was in a tournament this past weekend hand had a hook open up on a hook set which caused us an 11th place finish instead of 5th.

The second question is during prefishing my partner and I cheched an area twice on two different days and caught in total 9 keepers between 2.25-3 pounds. We thought that we could catch a limit out of there first thing in the mourning. Well on tourny day we get in there, and within the first 30 minutes my partner sticks what turned out to be the big bass (4.68) and I stick a 3 lber. The fish the previous weekend were males and now it seems like the females have moved in. We fished this small area 4 times through out the day, and never had another bite. We could see some fish on beds, some fish crushing, and some fish just hanging out under the docks. I think we wasted valuable time. Would you keep coming back to an area that you new had fish, but would not bite?

    Any advice would be great.

    Good luck on the water.

    Otto,

The standard EWG will open over time so you have 2 choices. Check the hook shape often and use a new one if it’s starting to bend or use the Super Line version. I cary both for flukes, the standard if I want to stay near the surface or the SL if I want to go deeper.

Alot depends on the area. I like to stay in an area if I know good fish are there, but with that being said, you need to be will ibng to adjust to catch them if they will not bite. It may be as simple as changing the color. If you are not comfortable changing what you are doing, then it is not as easy to stay, or continue continue coming back.

John, in regards to the EWG hook, it was brand new. I just could not believe that after a few hours of fishing it would open up the way it did especially with very little pressure. I did end up switching to the superline version after that.

Darrin, we through the kitchen sink at those fish. Swim jigs, rattletraps, jigs, tubes, senkos, wacky worms, flukes, and even topwater frogs and prop baits, but the fish would just nose the bait or just sit there and look at it. Now that I think of it, I should have tried a drop shot on them. I guess you just live and learn.
