Don’t remember the names that won it… sorry. Winning weight was 6 fish at just over 14 lbs. 101 boats entered, I would say upwards of 70 were fishing bass.
My Dad and I weighed 6 fish @ 12.8 lbs of fish. 2 Largeies @ 3.25 lbs couldn’t get another big fish… I believe we finished 14th, but not sure excatly, hopefully someone has a list they could post.
No pattern at all for us. We would fish a pattern, catch a couple and then NOTHING for a while… change pattern, catch a couple and then NOTHING for a while… repeat. In the end, we had 10 legals and sent another 10 non-legals swimming. Fishing got tough after 10 AM. One heck of a doggy was boated by my dad… thought we had it won! (8 lber) In the end, it seems reaction baits worked best in the higher, dirtier, highly pressured water(spinners, swimming jigs, cranks, etc.)
Best (or worst) story from the tourney… a father and son (maybe 15 years old) ran up to Pool 5a (wow… talk about a along day running) and had a 5+ lb bass… they got stuck behind a barge locking through, so they were DQ’d… too bad, great Smallie. The boy wouldn’t tell me ANYTHING… good for him. He just smiled. Same thing happened to a gentlemen who caught a 7+ lb Walleye up on 5…
Moral here is… get a big fish… GET HOME EARLY!
In the end, the tourney was a very enjoyable one with great “water-skiing” weather. Lots of wives and children fishing this tourney. Neat to see. Take care to all, and if anyone has the official results, please post.
