I was out on pool five today. I ended up in a backwater area that can be good. I fished some good looking stuff in there with no takers. Lots of minnows.
But….the whole time…it smelled. I thought maybe sewage was being dumped in. But no…. I went along the north shoreline….It was littered with dead fish. There must have been at least 1,000 dead fish. More bass than anything else. Looks like they had died awhile back as they were pretty well decomposed. The critters had eaten alot…I am sure hauled a bunch away…and who knows how many sank to the bottom.
I know some of you guys fish this spot. Any clue what happened? Just normal winterkill? Something else?
Its kind of a bleak feeling seeing all those 2 to 4 pound large and smallmouth just rotting away.
I know winterkill happens all the time….and maybe this isn’t the case…..but its much harder seeing it firsthand than just talking about it.
