    Well it’s a week early but hopefully I can be on a a school of these next Sat. This fish was def in a spawning spot. hopefully they don’t spit the eggs this week…

    four pounds 12 ounces she weighed. Reid Peters is the angler.

    not sure on the length. i was covert in my flat all weekend and didn’t have a tape. Everyone knows there’s big girls in the pits right now. No sense in giving them sore lips when I’m fishing next weekend. This fish came out of dark slough.

    Nice fish…lol never heard of Dark Slough, but you are right, there are always smallies like that in the pits this time of year.

    Hey man impressive fish I am from the twin cities and fish the st croix religioiusly for smallies, but have not fished much on the Miss, where are the “pits” located? also are you guys wading for these fish…

    JOSH, the pits are midway down pool 8, I’d have to show you to really explain it. They are very deep dredge holes (20-40ft) and the fish school up in that deep water and ocasionally move up onto some flats and points (3-10ft) to feed/spawn before they go back down under schools of shad. I personally like fishing more open/deeper water for smallies but i’ve heard of people going up creeks and small rivers around here to catch them too.
