I saw this topic post in the Walley Tourney HQ Forum and wondered what the Bass Tourneys would be like if they had the same format. Especially the last sentence in the paragraph.

Is that a pic of your new burner reels?

Here’s an over-the-shoulder view of Slop using one of his new fishing poles for the ’07 season.

Not to take way from the humor of this post by I have a question….”Co-anglers are not permitted to bring any tackle into the pro’s boat.” Why is this? I know nothing of Tourneys and am just curious as to the answer is all.

Because it is a team format and it doesn’t matter who catches the fish both the boater and co-angler get the same weight the responsibility is on the boater. If a co-angler brought their own gear and their rod had 5 year old line on it and broke off every fish the boater has no control over that and it directly impacts his results. This way if the line breaks or a fish comes unhooked it is my fault for not making sure it was fresh line or sharp hooks….I can’t blame the co-angler.

In bass tournies each angler is fishing for themselves so if I bring crappy gear with dull hooks and old line it is my own fault and won’t hinder the boaters potential for a good finish.

Honestly having fished the co-angler side of both the FLW walleye tour and the BASS weekend series and the boater side of the FLW Walleye league…I think the partner format is great.

Last year I fished the BASS weekend series hoping to learn more about bass fishing from the “pros”…..unfortunately the only Pro I met was Bob from here on IDA…the boater I signed up with. I learned more prefishing with him for a couple hours than I did in 3 day long tournaments from the boaters I had. Unless positioning the boat so the co-angler can’t fish is a valuable skill.
It was really frustrating, I think if they gave the boaters some motivation to make sure their co-anglers did well that would greatly improve the experience. Numerous co-anglers had the same experience I did.
