Are these going to be the new baits that everyone throws this year?

I’d love to see a 5 pound river bass cream an 11″ rubber trout!

Sure sounds like fun ! I’m always up for throwing something “new” or at a minimum… “new to me”. I do have a few tied on for an upcoming trip, but wouldn’t say I have them in the arsenal as a confidence bait yet.

willieboy, you having success on the river with swim baits? I caught one on a storm wildeye just to do it once when I was on fish but I would rather fish a swim jig I think. Also though, I think I need to use a lighter swim bait. I had to burn the storm one just to keep it above the eel grass

Better yet I want to see the look on your face after the 10 pound northern takes off with your $40.00 11″ rubber trout.

You’ll find no big rubber fish in my boat…

I was just seeing who throws them.

The interesting thing is that many of the Pod casts that I listened to while healing up where about Swim Baits. It is really a love hate thing. If the fish are on them and you are not fishing them you are screwed. If they aren’t and you are fishing them you are screwed. If they are on them and you are fishing them you might be screwed (especially with the new California law that you must hooh the fish inside the mouth).

Then there is the rating. The are classified 1-10 on sink rate so you can addjust speeds and fish different depths at different speeds. Sometimes you need to go deep and fast…..or deep and slow…or shallow and fast…..or shallow and slow…….how big a pain would it be to find out that you needed a slow and fast when all you had is a deep and slow………

That’s it I’m not moving to California.

brovarney, it’s simple really…just have to have a couple of each type…no big deal at $130 each

Clyde: stuck as I am in Omaha, NE I do not get the chance to fish the river…and down here, river fishing is primarily cats…so it’s almost all ‘still waters’…I use the storm wildeye (3 inch bunker is a great bluegill imitator)…

But I believe I’d have to agree with you: swim jig would seem to be as/more effective in these waters…seeing as we don’t feed our bass on stupid hatchery raised trout…
