Glen, I was out over the weekend too. Took the wife fishing Saturday night on Pool 10 and tried combining Largemouth with bluegill fishing. We didn’t fare well with either species only catching dink bass and some smaller gills. We did boat some monster “doggies” though. To make matters worse we took out a buck on the way home.

On Sunday I fished Pool 11 with a friend. Started out slow only catching a couple of dinks while fishing wood with heavy current. Then proceeded to a backwater area I hadn’t fished for over 10 years. We caught alot of bass with 12 measuring 14″ or better. The fish came on spinnerbaits and flipping worms and crawfish imitations to shallow water wood. There was also a slight current on the shoreline we were fishing. We did try some other areas later in the day but caught mostly dinks.

Both days we tried fishing topwater on some pad fields with no success. Has anyone had any luck on topwater yet this year?

I fish Pool 6/7/8/9 with a concentration on 7… Tried the slop the past few outings with deadsticked senko’s, scum frogs, unweighted tubes, and buzzbaits… not much “hooked” buthad some action. LOTS of rigs fishing the slop… not sure about their action.

Hey gang… I really need your help… When fishing “slop” what are the prerequisites to finding fish? I suppose it depends on the time of year and water temps, but what depths? What tempes? What time of year? Current or no-current? Pads? Grass? Duckweed?

Your expertise would be appreciated. This is an area I am working on. Thanks in advance!

I found much of the same on pool 10. Sat am I caught 8 “keeper lm”- the largest was 17 inches, others 14.5-15.5. I also caught a lot of dinks and several 12-13 inches. Most came on spinner baits, then senko and tubes later. On sunday I tried some current and rock areas and caught a 16 inch smallie and a largemouth about the same size in addition to 2 other keepers in just over 4 hours. Again, 10-12 inch bass were plentiful (at least 15 caught- about 1/2 sm, 1/2 lm) and kept me on my toes while waiting for the big bites. Overall, the fishing was good- the weather was nice to be out- cool in the morning and hot as the day went on. Water level was ok, but I suspect dropping. I was able to get most places I wanted to go with minimal difficulty. I should make it back up the 4th- that could be a zoo- there were lots of boats this weekend.

Sounds like you had a good time, which is great. Me and Nick were going to try and hook up with you. I will be over there for the Fourth as well. What kind of boat do you run?

    Reel Guy,
This is just my personal experience, and I am sure others will vary, but that what is nice about fishing no one is ever wrong. I have caught fish in slop that is just moss, but other times I there is pads mixed in. I also like to try and find some other cover in the slop or related to it. If there are some laydowns in the slop, I think that it helps. As of this weekend on pool 10 there wasn’t any good slop yet. I think the highwater we had a couple of weeks ago messed it up, but with the warm weather coming up this week, it should be present soon. The slop bite will last until it is gone or until the fish don’t want to come up anymore. I have caught fish on top of the slop in late September. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions hollar. Also make sure you have a follow up bait rigged up to pitch into the hole that a fish came out of, but missed the rat. I like a tube, RC Tackle Craw tube or a brush hog.

Maybe I could’ve, but I don’t have any. You might need to send me a pack or two. It’s all what you have confidence in.
