So I will probably make it out the 1st or 2nd week in April and I am just seeing what everyone will have tied on for their first trip.

I’ll probably have a jerkait, either a pointer or X-rap
a senko is always nice this time of year
probably a little brown/black arkie jig
and a Carolina Rig with a brush hog

I start with 4 and by 11:30 there will be about 12 rods on my deck, half of which I will ask myslef later “what the heck was I thinking”

what are you going to start out with?

    Kris,

I always struggle a little with traps. What colors do you like in the spring and are you looking for green grass of any other particular structure?

There goes one rod. Suppose I would have to have a $1.79 northland spinner on one, pointer on the other, along with a gary. Gary and I go way back gotta love’m!

I’ll probably use a hairjig, super-doo, and a rattletrap. crawfish colors usually work for me in the early spring.

My rod will have jigs, of course, small cranks (strike king model 1), and a new small x-rap…

I think I am going to start with a swim jig, rat-l-trap, as well as a flipping jig of some sort.

    new Deep X rap
    >4″creature bait
    finesse worm/shakey head
    finesse worm/texas rig
    Small silver square bill crankbait
Rapala rattlin’ rap (blue top, silver body)
    Booyah finesse jig/yum trailer

My main bait is definitely going to be a toss up between the 2 finesse worms I have a lot of confidence working them on wood and breaklines as well as verticly (shakey head) over deep wood. I had a huge toss up between a swim jig or a trap bait on my 7 ft rod but chose trap bait instead. Calls more fish in this time of year IMO and gets deeper faster.

The only thing I have that resembles a crawfish is a small creature in watermelon red. I agree that crawfish colors work well in the spring, but I also believe that there is a shad color pattern. There definitely will be this year because the shad are still all over the place on the pool. all the back bays with 4-5 feet of water should have a good trap/jerkbait bite in a couple weeks because they warm faster and will definitely have shad.

I’m not disagreeing though..I use a lot of crawfish colors throughout april and May. Just not my absolute top choice right away.

    In no particular order:

Bitsy tube, senko, X-Rap, size 5 ShadRap.
