Thought I would start a thread with open water updates on the river. Doesn’t matter what pool..post what you are finding for open water/landing updates. I live near goose island on pool 8, and already can see some of the backwaters openning-Running Slough in particular. I can’t say what the goose landing looks like, I’m sure its still locked up..But it will be open soon. What is everyone else finding? (state the landing, slough name, pool etc.) Just curious. It would be nice to be able to come on here and see where to put in at, as I do not have enough time to go check all the landings myself, And I am sure others do not as well.

Here is a webcame image from pool 8 main channel. This morning it was all ice as far as I could tell except for the section by the bridges. Now you can see it is pretty much wide open other than that one pesky Ice shelf!
Here is the link to the webcam for anyone interested:

    Cade,
If there is still ice in the main channel, I am sure Target will be still frozen. It is going to take some more rain, warmer temps throughout the day and a little current moving through to open up some of the backwater honey holes. Patience my friend, you will be out there snagging toads in no time.
If you can’t wait, you may have to dive down to Kentucky and catch a few like this.

saw that on your myspace page..Nice fish. I want to get into target for ice fishing though We checked out 7th street tonight and its wide open. You will have to go south and come around the backside of the island (slow no wake) to get to the channel because the other way is blocked with ice. The water is definitely up right now and the flow cutting under the docks at the landing is incredible. Water is chocolate milk also..But its open. And with the high water saturating up on top and through the ice, it shouldn’t take long for even the backwaters to free up. I saw some consitant readings in the 50’s some days pushing 60 for next week

I’ll report back tomorrow with more ice out updates as we are getting the boat out for #2 outting in ’07

I got out today and Justin and I had a good time enjoying time in the boat on a quicly openning river. The river is quite dirty. Yeah, its high, but I’ve seen it worse. The channel is WIDE open, but a lot of garbage and ice coming down stream. The backwaters are ice but only 1 place of the 4 we checked today was safe enough to be on for fishing. We busted a lot of ice on pool 8 to get the backwaters flowing. It was a fun couple hours out messing around. I caught a couple small crappies in the place we did ice fish but nothing exciting..We flipped jigs in the flooded bushes/timber for bass..obviously we knew we weren’t going to catch anything but it was fun pretending It seems like some of the trout streams are finally settling down now. The bigger tributaries however, like the LAX river, Root River, and even pammel creek, are all well over there banks. I haven’t seen the Root River but I hear its pretty high as well. All of the marsh in LAX from the LAX river looks like a lake. Its really high. I say bring on this high, fast water. It is really doing a number on getting rid of that ice so we can get out and use our boats safely!
