Weekend Recap,
Well, This weekend was difficult once again for the largemouth. They were holding mostly on wood and secondary current. The vegetation is coming up nicely however the sunnies and gills are not using them to the point that the green bass are in them feeding. I have also noticed an absence of the once large schools of baitfish. The main river is not giving up much in this arena as well. In prefishing for the Bob’s Bait and Tackle tourney out of lacrosse I was having more problems that any one person should be allowed.
Trolling motor circuit board bellowed smoke, If I would have only known the big motor was going to have problems I would have used this breakdown to send smoke signals.. –ouch-
Anyway, the oil cap on the oil tank under the hood broke and oil sprayed all over my motor and 2 fine gentlemen towed my sorry tail into the landing. (Thanks if you are reading) Anyway, we drive to starks to pick up the needed part and fix the motor in Blue Flecks driveway. We decide to take her out for a spin and after a couple miles the oil cleared out of the air intake calming my spirits a little.
Tom had better luck than I in prefishing and found fish on a couple spots so with trolling motor wired on high bypassing the circuit board and a good running motor we decided to head out to our little spots. We only caught a couple on the No# 1 spot and then a couple more on the number 2. We were in trouble…. We do a little head hunting and get one here and then a couple there. @ 1:00 we needed 1 fish to fill a limit. Having 3 good fish and 4 dinks we thought we were in trouble. We pulled up to a point to fish and with little time left boat our last keeper and it was another dandy. We weighed in 2 ounces shy of 20lbs and took 3rd. The fishing was ok, but by no means great. I did however make enough money to pay to fix the trolling motor and any time you go home with a check it was a good day!!! Blue Fleck was the superstar on this tourney. He found these fish after having spent many evenings prefishing for this tournament. Thanks Tom!! I appreciate your effort. Hard work is often rewarded…
See ya’ll on the water.
