I know I am ready for the open water season that is just around the corner. It shouldn’t be long. I hope to have the boat out by the end of this month and the preparation the last couple months has been grueling Forcasts aren’t showing anything in the 60’s yet but we will be making progress with temps in the 40’s next week. Where will you be making your first outting, and what techniques will you be using?

My boat is totally ready to go..All it needs is a fresh charge on the battery and a fresh tank of gas. Here is my in-deck storage system..
March 3, 2007 at 11:04 pm #544295You’re making me feel guilty for not getting my boat in order. Guess I better get moving!
March 3, 2007 at 11:11 pm #544301usually fishing slow at first, suspending cranks, pointers, maybe a jig. i have a spot where i was catching them last year the end of march so hopefully it gets warm enough for there. believe it or not i was catching them in rat-l-traps, and also had alot of luck with pointers crankbaits and spinnerbaits. bring on spring!!!!!!
March 4, 2007 at 3:04 am #544368Cade- nice work on the boat- not sure if you had all that storage done before but it looks great! Early on I fish slow- jig and pig, jerkbaits with long pauses, sweet beavers or kreatures with light weights. Get your rods and reels cleaned, fresh line and you are good to go!
March 4, 2007 at 3:39 am #544378Thanks, That crate you see not only holds all my tackle, but adds support to the deck so you don’t break the plywood when standing on it I was having a hard time deciding what I could use for a support without limiting storage space, and my dad and I came up with this. I use 2 good sized tubbaware containers for my plastics, and the crate holds 7 boxes.2 more are on either side of the crate, as I wrapped a bunjee cord around the crate to slide the boxes into. you can see the battery, but we also have a spot under the front part of the deck where the battery normally sits stationary. I just haven’t put it back in there yet.
As far as the fishing, I’m still a newbie in the early fishing world. I’m going to start out with a lot of stuff..But am going to force myself to try some reaction baits as well, looking for some agressive fish. Things I have tied on include: 5″ zellamander, reaction innovations shakey head w/ flirt worm, 3.5″ powerbait tube with jighead insert, spinnerbait, yum version of sweet beaver, x-rap, and a frenzy flicker shad..
March 4, 2007 at 3:40 am #544380I am “Chuck Norris” ready!
but I probably won’t get out until late April or early May. Got another Drahthaar pup coming on board and that will keep me busy for a while.
Last year I did pretty well with an X-Rap early on.
March 4, 2007 at 3:58 am #544385Suspending jerk baits, last spring was the 1st time we used them. Forced myself to fish them. What a great bait.
Nice job on the boat, your farther along than Aaron and I. We’ve got the tackle and rods ready. It will
not take long to get the boats readyMarch 5, 2007 at 4:02 pm #544061Sure am. Shapened my hooks, changed line, cleaned boat, Greased everything….now need open water.
March 5, 2007 at 9:52 pm #544936I don’t really care about the 35″ of snow as much as the ice that is under it! Bring it on…I’ll be ready when it gets here!
BomberAPosts: 649March 5, 2007 at 10:32 pm #544969If the temps get into 45 on Fri or Sat, I’m sure Riverfan knows where you can find a few largemouth this weekend…
March 5, 2007 at 10:57 pm #544985BTW, Since the pics, I have changed things on my rods a few more times and Tore everything you see in the storage pic out so I could clean out the last 2 years of leaves, eelgrass, and dad’s cigarrette butts out of the bottom Took a while, and its still not clean as a your fiberglass bass boats, But its probably one of the cleanest ’69 tin cans around! Even used resolve carpet cleaner to reduce the massive staining from wet/muddy feet..
March 6, 2007 at 3:15 am #545108Cade,
Be honest…now that March is here you’ve started sleeping in your boat each night, haven’t you?
