Fishing shallow clear water, less than 10 feet, lots of rock and sparse weed:

What is your favorite blade configuration?

    And why.

If I missed your favorite please tell me as I would like to know.

    Thanks,

    Ron

You didn’t have my choice in there so here it is
Swimming jig Since learning a little bit about this bait, it has basically replaced my spinnerbaits. I don’t really remember throwing them last year.

I throw a lot of swimbaits also BUT in rock I prefer spinnerbaits. What makes swimbaits great at coming through weeds realy hurts them when coming through big chunk rock. IMO

It may be my imagination but I think a willow leaf works over wider range of retrieve speeds. And under the circumstancs you described I’d go with a shorter upper arm for better hookup. I’d make sure I hit the rocks and bounced the bait away from it, that’s a great trigger.

There is a reason some of my spinnerbaits have no paint left on them

Shad colored skirt, Double Willow, but most of the time in this situation I would throw a lipless crank.

I’m with Watson..over the course of this last season, I ended up putting down the spinnerbaits, and chucking swim jigs much more. However, Spinnerbaits really pay off for me in the Spring and Fall still. My favorite would have to be the colorado/willow, because you can fish it real slow but keep it relatively high in the water column. Obviously in deeper situations, I’ll go with the double willow. I’m really not a big fan of single colorado

Switching from a willow leaf to a single colorado blade on day 2 of the Chevy wild card nearly got me in the All American.

Don’t be afraid to mix it up, each blade gives off a different vibration and that might be what the fish want that day.

I tried swim jigs last summer, actually used them more than spinner baits. They caught a lot of small Northerns but fewer Bass (even though I used them more). Is this maybe a river versus lake thing?

Rootski. I fished swim jigs on lakes last June and completely tore them up. It was almost every cast along weedlines and on top of weed flats. Northerns also.

I’d rather not throw a spinnerbait if I can get away with it. But if I had to choose…it would be a big willow and a small colorado.

Not that you see them around in stores BUT keep in mind that a double Indiana blade spinnerbait won back-to-back-to-back Bassmaster Classic Tournaments in 1974, 1975 and 1976. I know that is years ago, when you make your own one can do anything. Even when you do not make your own, changing blades can make OR break a day on the water.

I am surprised I am the only one who asked, but what time of the year? I will go out on a limb here and say there is no such thing as the perfect spinnerbait for spring through fall.

I was wondering if someone would ask the season.
I agree with there is no perfect spinnerbait for all seasons. I throw them from early June to mid July after that I switch to plastics.
I am basically wondering what kind of spinnerbaits everybody is throwing.

I opted for the single willowleaf also. You don’t need that much flash or thump in clear water.
