OK Guys, I don’t use a lot of bread so I’m looking for an opinion. Which will cast further with an identical lure, bait casting rod and reel. Braid, Mono of fluoro? What’s your experience?

I don’t use much bread for fishing either, but I sure like to eat it.
I’d think mono would cast farther.
MONO. Stay with less memorie lines. Somthing Like Trilene XL. If you are looking for distance only, stay with the lightest line you can get away with.
Braid will cast about 15-20% further IMO.
I do know with mono, I have use KVD Line and Lure conditioner and it really does make mono more limp and does cast further.
On the average, mono will cast further(low memory mono).
This depends greatly on what line you are using. Line diameter is part of the equasion here too. The larger in diameter of any line, the heavier it gets and it will shorten casting distance.
If your using 10# mono, and switch to 10# power pro, the power pro will cast further because of the tiny diaeter and its light. If you compare 10# mono to super line of similar diameter(30# super line), the mono is likely to perform better. The mono is smoother which also creates less friction-drag on the rod guides.
In the end, mono fished against a super line of similar diameter to that mono, the mono will cast further. If you choose to use a light super line(up to 15#), it will greatly out-perform the mono of the same line strength because of the lack of diameter.
Did that make sense?

I like P-Line Co-Polymer, you can wizz that stuff…
Roger that!
Now, I cast P-Line and PowerPro roughly the same distance… The discussion from my perspective is more in line with the equipment being used. Which is why each year reconidtioing your reel will prove fruitful in performance, and using lubricants designed for longer casts will bear fruit, too.
Now, if you are going “non-boater” with Champman, just plan on putting a 1 ounce weigh on whatever you are throwing… otherwise, you won’t get anywhere NEAR the fish…
Ryan,
I’ve got the souped-up reels and can spool my Scorpion with a Super Spook Jr but I still can’t beat Champman.
My preference is mono because of line management (backlash etc) I’ve sent several expensive lures into orbit when the braid locked-up, but I’m willing to change if there is a consensus. So far it’s 50/50.

rg, you shouldn’t let the cat out the bag so quickly
I know, I know… All I can remember is asking why we were fishing “open water” and your response was something like… “You are, but mine is reaching that dime sized location from 100 feet away and entering the water with no splash.”
Anyway, it was something like that… probably just my memory recall is as good as my ability to fish!
Or, was that 1 ounce weight the trick?
