I have been thinking of thinks I want to accompolish this season.
    1. Spend more time on the water
    2. Place in the top 3 in our club standings
    3. Learn to read the water better which by doing number #1 will be a factor in that
    4. Bring in a full limit at 75% or more of the tournies I enter. I don’t care if I am 5# out of the money, getting on and catching fish is a good start to future consistency.
    5. Find and fish different areas on the river
    6. Fish Pool 9 a lot more
    7. Learn at least one new technique. This year for sure I would like to learn the art of Carolina rigging.
    8. Learn the right equipment for the right technique. Right now, I just grab a rod and rig it to whatever I decide to throw regardless of rod weight or line.
    9. Fish more local tournies
    10. Catch at least 5 5# plus fish. Last year I couldn’t break the 4 1/2# mark.

2.Get some new electronics and understand how to use them.
    3. Dial in the open water trolling patterns on Mille Lacs.

My goals for this year would be this:

Finish in the top 10 at Fishers of Men Nationals in May

Be in the Top 20 of BFL and make Regionals

Make a Top 20 at Regional BFL

Make Regionals for FOM again, and then make a Top 10 again at Regionals there…

plus take a few bucks from my buddies in our little after work tourneys

MSBC has a fun one… well run. It ended up getting cancelled in 2006 unfortunately, but is on the schedule for 2007.

We also have one in our little Jerkin’ Lips Co-Ed clubber… what a hoot!

Of course, after last year’s results, MossBoss is reconsidering partners EVERY week… “D” is a heck of a fisher-lady…

Moss – you have that picture?

to become a better angler by joining a bass club and spending time on the water.

sharing the knowledge that I get with others that don’t get to fish much.

    beat 3# 14oz this year.

learn and perfect a new technique other than slop fishing with top water frogs.

I have a ton of goals The big one isn’t coming until 2008 but I got a few goals I am looking at accomplishing as soon as 1 month from now. My biggest goal is to be capable of catching bass immidiately after ice out. My best is april 2 for catching open water bass and that was only a 13″ smallie.
Also, I would like to catch a largemouth over 21-1/2″ long, and a smallie over 20″ long.

    TD,

Going back to #4 on your list, wouldn’t that mean you would also have to give up rolling around on the living room floor with boys half your age?

My goals for this upcoming season would be:
    1. Get a New Boat
    2. Learn new bodies of water
    3. Become a better deep water fisherman using deep cranks, finesse baits, and carolina rigs
    4. Win the Boom Lake Open since I have finised 6th, 5th, 4th, and 2nd the last three years
    5. Fish at least one tournament a month

What deep cranks does everyone use for deep weedlines in clear water?

Since this will be the first full year on the River and last year was just a look and see kind of a year, my goal is to actually find some fish on the Miss so I do not have to go to Hayward so often to catch fish.

Oh ya it would be nice to catch eyes so I do not have to resort to those jumping fish

    1. Install a tracking device on Laufenberg’s Starcraft to expand my list of hot spots on Pool 8.

    2. Catch a 5# LM this summer.

    3. Help my son catch a fish on his own cast and retrieve. It’s been all bobbers to this point.

    4. Get on the water at least once a week and enjoy each trip, whether I catch anything or not!

Nice post, you must have read my mind. If you can accomplish number #4 you are one good fisherman.

My goals tend to focus on large fish of all species and I will post those later.

I did note someone mentioned avoiding Pool 5A which I found interesting because that has been our best Walleye and Sunfish Pool for years. Plus, our biggest Northern, Mudcat, Sunfish and Walleye have all come from that pool.

    Anyway, appreciate the post.

I had the chance to fish 5a twice last year. Having never been there before that, I actually liked the pool. It has a lot of different types of cover and lots of backwaters to fish. That was for bass. This year we are coming up there again, but I beleive earlier in the year so that will be interesting.
As far as #4 goes, it will definitely be a tough goal to accompolish, but I am going to try to the best of my abilities.

Spend time getting more confidence in crankbaits
Try to move off the bank a bit and fish the 10-12 foot depths more
Work more on flipping heavy jigs into weed beds…

I would like to learn better the seasonal movements on the river- Many of the spring areas (down here at least) are backwaters that are silted heavily at the mouth, and it is difficult to track the movements from spring spawning areas out to summer current areas.

I have three goals this year:
    1) Learn the Mississippi a lot better
    2) Place top 10% in MSBC overall
    3) Beat Mike Watson in every club tournament
