Getting the red out

    All,

I know you guys are seeing all of the ridiculous lures with red hooks, red bills and red splash’s all over the lures. Well I’ve been working techniques to remove all of the vile red. My first line of defense is a black permanent felt tip marker. It takes care of hooks and some of the smaller splashes on Crank baits. Sand paper and steel wool works on larger body areas but I still haven’t fond anything for red diving bills. Have you guys got any ideas for bills?

Refrain from purchasing lures that dont entice your desires, its less effort

Just bust the bills off. Nothing with red on it will work right no matter how hard you try to cover it up, so it sure wont matter how the lure acts without a bill!

spend about $100 and get yourself a good airbrush. It will take some practice but you can doctor them any way you like.

I really don’t understand this thread. If you do not like the Red on certain lures. Buy the baits without the red hook, bills, etc…. Are we having a tackle shortage in this country now?

maybe he wants a very specific color that they only offer as part of a bleeding bait line or maybe he wants a particular model of which they dont make otherwise without a red bill. im sure he wouldnt buy a crank with red on it with the same color, model, and size without red sitting next to it on the shelf unless they didnt offer that particular color/model/size in the one he wanted. care to explain tho john on why you are against the whole bleeding bait idea? it dosent really matter to me either way i have never noticed a difference either way.

Im not sure but i took this as a joke. I dont know John personally but by the “tone” of his post I believe him to be suffering from cabin fever and joking around. I think having blizzard conditions and hard water tends to drag on us bass guys.

My guess is its the old green fat raps with the red bill. I hate the red bill but love everything else about it…. Since you can barely find them anymore a guy has to do what a guy has to do.

John, you don’t have to get rid of all the red, just dull the hooks. I’ve found that a Dremel tool works good to grind down the pointy parts.

Even with the water being hard, John can still do a little trolling.
