I have a chance to buy a 1998 nitro 800LXS. Just wondering what some people thought about nitro boats? It only has had one owner, and has a 115hp merc on it.

Bassthumb,
Theres a fellow who posts here who has a Nitro, you may do well by speaking with him (dhnitro).
From what I’ve heard around the circuits is that they do NOT hold up well, but I do not have any first hand experience.
Here are a few Web sites which you can go to for used boats:
1.) (this is where I got my boat. In the search area, just put in the boat manufacturer)
http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/bassboard/boats_for_sale/index.htmland
http://www.bassboatcentral.com
It may be a good idea to check these boards out before you buy .
Thanks,

May 21, 2003 at 3:28 pm #267146Hey guys–yes I have a nitro..However its not the bigger ones..It was a 17ft on..But I loved it. By the way its for sale. My experiences with Nitro’s have always been good. I can’t talk for the bigger models.. If I could buy a new one right now I would buy the 929 model. Does that mean its a perfect boat and won’t have problems..I doubt it. For me I would recommend buying one…but someone else may not. My friends have Stratos, Skeeters, and Team Blazers, all of which are great boats.. The reason I bought my boat long ago was I like how the hull was layed and rode for me..And I know nothing about the tech points on that, just know what I felt confortable with. I’m sure other have had bad experiences so listen to them also. From what I know about my nitro I will never say anything bad about them (so far) The only regret I did have was not ordering the bigger motor for my 17 ft one…But I have a friend that has the 115 on and runs fine.. Hey and up until this year I fished the BFL and many other tournaments with it. The only thing I told my co-anglers was to tell me on which side I was getting passed… Anyways, my boat handled and held up very well to some nasty conditions.. Only my opinion..hope it helps>>>>>>>>>
May 21, 2003 at 4:06 pm #267149I know 2 people that have a 180 and a 160 and they both love them. They are from ’95 and ’96 and no problems so far.
May 21, 2003 at 4:17 pm #267152Jeff Ritter had a Nitro that he bought from a friend of mine. It served both of them very well for a ton of fishing hours. Jeff just traded it in and got another Nitro, another satified customer, I guess. My friend bought up to a Ranger and has had trouble with the Mercury Optimax, but likes the boat.
May 21, 2003 at 5:30 pm #267155I am currently running a nitro 700 LX with the 115 merc and have been very happy with it all around. Other than general wear and tear maintenance I have never had any problems with mine. One of my buddys I fish with has a 901 CDX and has had some minor problems but mostly just motor issues with his 200 EFI merc. I have heard of people saying they dont hold up as well under harsh conditions .They say the hull will begin to stress crack over time although I have never experienced this for myself.
As far as the ride and handling of the bigger Nitros i don’t see much difference between it and the big Rangers.
I have always thought you get what you pay for but for the money I will probobaly stick with the Nitro for my next boat.
Just my experiences. Hope it helps you out.Kelly
May 28, 2003 at 6:09 pm #267430I would agree they don’t hold up well. I have a 2001 NX882 18.5ft. This and Nitros in general can not handle the pounding of tournament fishing. I have to spend a good deal of time repairing the boat after every tournament, especially if the weather was rough.
It is a very stable fishing platform, however. The wide beam keeps it stable when fishing in waves. I would not recommend Nitro’s for tournament fishing but if you are just an average weekend fishermen who would rather stay home when the weather gets rough then it might be a good choice.
I have fished in a lot of boats and Triton is the only one I will rely on in the future. They hold their resale very well also.
