    Hey, guys.

Any of you ever use Everstart batteries for your trolling motor; if so, do you like them? If you didn’t like’em, why?

Which batteries do you use? Why?

    Thanks,

I didn’t make the above clear.

I need to purchase two trolling motor batteries, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Go to Sams and get the yellow ones. Not sure the name but make sure they are 27’s. You will be thrilled with the proformance of these. I used a set for 3 years and they were as good the day I sold my boat as the day I got them.

I’ve used the everstart batteries for years and for the price I have been happy. They are very good about taking them back and giving the pro-rated credit on them. I would recommend, like we talked about in a thread a couple of weeks ago, going with an on-board charging system. I just got a 3 bank 15 amp charger for $90. It is important to keep the batteries charged and will make them last longer. Chargers with more amps are more expensive, but I think the one I bought will work for a weekend fisherman.

I got one at where I work and I havent used it on the water yet. I might buy a dry cell battery those seem to last longer when fishin.

Hey, boys. Thanks for your input.

I went to Wally world at 8:30pm last night and bought two EverStar Batteries for $56.95 each. Part# is 27DC-6 which have 115 amp hours. The other model suggested by Wal-mart was the 24DC-6 which have, if I recall correctly (it’s been over 12 hours now) 105 amp hours which, incidentally is the minimum amp hours required for a Motor Guide Tour Edition of 67lb thrust (I got anal and called Motor Guide: 920-929-5040, option 5).

The fellow from who I purchased the boat only had 75 amp hour batteries installed… No wonder why I was running out of juice!

Additionally, a beautiful thing happened last night… Go get a beverage of your choice, come back, get comfy and I’ll tell you the tale.

    Ok.

I picked up my boat (my mechanic suggested a few things for me to do which will indicate to him what may be wrong) as my mechanic didn’t find anything wrong with the engine, except that I may need to rebuild it in a year or two… Got that part?

Now, my lovely bride was with me when we picked up the Cat, and after I told her what Dave our mechanic said, that I may need to rebuild the upper half of the engine, know what she said, boys and girls (this is the beautiful part)?

“Well, being that we’d have to rebuild a Johnson 150, why don’t we just by a Merc 200 Opti, being that your PII Cat is under powered?”

    I just about passed out!

Reeling from that lovely vision of possibility, I just continued to drive, acting my normal cool self, and said, “yeah, I guess if comes to that, we may just have to do that, honey.” After which she just kindly smiled.

    Can you dig it

Maybe we’ll see some of you boys this weekend.

    Thanks,

I’m happy for you, and I’m not picking on your lovely bride, but you should have read between the lines of what your wife said. I will break it down for you. “You will pay for that motor somewhere, someway down the road.” Believe me. That motor won’t come without a price, not just the cost of the motor. I believe the conversation will start out like this. “Honey, remember when I let you(and she did let you) buy that motor for your boat? Well I was thinking……….

I truly hope I’m wrong. Now run and buy that motor as fast as you can.

Here’s the really cool thing about the yellow batteries…they come with a an 18 month free repalcement! I’ve had to replace both my group 29s and my starter battery one year after I bought them. Did not cost me a dime. (Make sure to save the reciepts.) I went with the group 29s because of more amp hours and I had the room. I also agree about the read between the lines. I can see a new sofa or bedroom set coming down the road. But, more power to you. Once you have the motor it’s hard to take it back. Good Luck!

Get this one On The Water my bride told me I could buy a new boat this year. That’s one of the advantages of fishing tourneys with her. By the way that is all I use are the Everstart batteries in my Stratos. I didn’t take her up on the offer though.

I’ll tell you boys what… Those new Everstart Batteries I bought for this past weekend’s BFL in Clinton worked like a charm, hey… Too bad I didn’t forsee the little power switch on the Motor Guide going five hours into the tournament… Oh, I’m replacing it this evening… It’s only a $9.00 part!

So, I found a nice bank and I floated it so me and my nonboater could get few… I had one in the am; after that, nada.

Out of 140 boats, 40 didn’t weigh in a fish!

PS The wife has been mentioning something about selling all the “old” furniture when we move to VA and buying “new” stuff when we get there… This could have much to do with that new motor offer, hey ? At least I see it comin’
