Shimano Calais vs Curado

I am looking to purchase a few new reels this year. I have been a fan of the Curado since it first came out. Last year I purchased 3 new Curado 200 DSHV and love the reels. Has anyone had a chance to compare the Curado to the Calais? Just wondering if the extra cost of the Calais gives that much better preformance, and in what ways is the preformance better?

That’s a great question. I wish I had the cash to answer it. I have a bunch of the older Curados and I love them. It’d take a special reel to get me to make the switch.

My favorite reels are the Curado and Abu Garcia Morrum 1600.

If I make any more reel purchases, it’ll probably be another Curado.

I have always been an Abu Garcia guy and when I decided that I “needed” a low profile reel this year at the St. Paul Sport Show I looked into the Curado and Calais but wound up getting the new Abu Garcia Revo STX. It seemed to compare very well with the Calais…does anyone have any experience with the Revo vs. the Shimano counterparts??

For those of you that like the CAlais, Scheels All Sports in Eau Claire has them clearanced for $269 – over $100 off. I put ceramic bearings in all my Curados though and will not be giving them up any too soon.

Kizew, how much did it run you for the ceramic bearings (I’m assuming you’re talking about the Curado B)?

    Hi Ryan,
I buy Rockets and they are pricey – 39.95 per 2 pack. Rocket Brgs
