my dad came up from Iowa to fish the Wisconsin opener this weekend. He got his biggest smallmouth ever (by a good margin) he said this one was worth the trip up.

Your dad’s is so darn fat it almost looks deformed. Did you get a scale on it?

Very nice fish. Were you on a lake?

Details man….Details…There’s got to be a story behind those brutes. Not to mention some measurements and weights. Great looking fish even better pictures. Good Job!

Looks like a lake on the Chippewa River perhaps? Nice fish no matter where they were caught. Keep up the good work and posting photos for us to enjoy and slobber over!!

    ok details –

I had no scale in the boat so no official weights. Dad’s fish measured 20 3/4 and mine was 20 1/4, however due to the extreme girth of the fish measuring them on a flat surface was putting a noticable bend in them so they were probably more like 1/2″ longer than they measured. For what its worth my guesstimates on weight were 6 1/2 – 7 lbs for his fish and 5 1/2 for mine.

Both fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits fished with 5-10 second pauses.

I will refrain from naming the lake they were caught on. I know of a handful of lakes in northwest wisconsin that are capable of fish of this quality, and I hope to avoid concentrating too much pressure on any single lake (especially with spawning season coming up in the next 3-4 wks). If you are interested in fishing in the area, you can email or pm me and I will give info on some of the lakes.

thanks to all for the compliments.

Wow, those are just huge, healthy-looking smallies! Great work on catching them and great work on taking the photos…they really are nice shots! Gotta love those WI northwoods…Leinenkugels, great lakes to fish…I like Holcombe myself!

YEAH BABY!!!! THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT!!!!

If you made it to where I think you made it, my dad had a great day down there too! His was 18 3/4″, his personal best! He usually doesn’t target bass cuz he’s a meat guy but he sure enjoyed putting that one in the boat!

I didn’t make it there because my boat motor refused to cooperate. It’s not getting gas to the carb so I believe it’s got a stuck needle or something because all the plumbing works on it’s way there. Spray gas into the carb and it fires right up………for a bout 5 seconds. Anyway, that’s why I wasn’t there, if you were where I think you were.

    Thanks for sharing the details!
