I have a Lowrance depthfinder in the dash of my boat and it stops reading below 7 foot. I am not sure why, but it either needs to be fixed , or replaced. I have played with the setting, but nothing makes it better. Any suggestions? It is a through hull transducer.

    Thanks

There could be a lot of things going on here. By below 7 feet, you mean at depths greater than 7 ft, right?

I guess aside from things like cabling, I would start with the transducer. I would guess that you have the transducer glued in with resin? Fiberglass boat, right? If it’s installed this way, you may not have many options with the transducer. You will definately want to make sure it’s still mounted correctly and nothing is going on there. Another thing to check would be the smoothness of the hull under the transducer.

If it isn’t resined in, a good test would be to dump some water back there to see if it works any better. I have a lazy shoot through the hull install without resin and I just make sure there some water down there and I’m good to go.

If thouse check out OK, maybe see if you can find a transducer to try (I may have one), you could just hold it in the water. If it works you may need to install a new transducer.

For problems othere than that I wouldn’t know how to do anything but bring the unit into a pro.

for a quick trouble-shoot, if you have or know someone with a spare transducer/cable, just hook it up and drop it over the side…if it reads depths, it’s definitely be something with the transducer/mount…

He might also mean that his locator will not read anything shallower than 7ft. Most units should be able to get as shallow as ~2- 2 1/2ft before they quit reading.

What the heck are you trying to say bassman!? I would still try the suggestions.

IF YOU RUN YOUR CABLE ALONG THE ELECTRIC OF TROLLING AKA YOUR CABLES, THE ELECTRIC CURRENT WILL MESS UP YOUR GRAPHS. I RUN MINE STRAIGHT TO THE HEAD OF THE TROLLING MOTER THEN DOWN THE SHAFT. I HAD THE SAME ISSUES BEFOR I DID THAT.
