Yesterday we only fished 1/2 day. After or should I say while catching about 25 or so walleye and sauger,(all 11 inches or under and all back in the river),we started casting a Wing dam where the large female smallies will be in a couple of weeks. I have missed the early migration of big males the last two years but obviously not this year. Although they stopped after the fifth one, we hit all five in maybe an hour. Largest about 20 inches,(Don Carlson the Viroqua Walmart Manager got that one), all males and not dull and spring slow by any means. They all tugged a bunch and ran like heck. No above water dancing, but that is usually reserved for the smaller ones anyway.

We were using Taylor Tackle Motor oil , and Motor oil/crawler colors, Fluttertails as I have posted in other posts. The fact that they are working another year is no suprise. We were using Taylor tackle 1/8 oz Chart. shortshank ball jigs for three of them and 1/4 oz Taylor Tackle Pink/purple Walleye Killer Jig for the other two one with the tail and one without.

About Noon the minnows started to fly everywhere including when our jigs hit the water and the smallies apparently found them more interesting because they stoped chasing us and started chasing them.
