Pool 5 Largemouth

Hit the backwaters on Pool 5 today (Sunday) and had a pretty good time with the largemouth. We boated over twenty largemouth , the biggest being around three pounds (not exactly sure on the weight, as all fish were immediatly released). We found the fish to be holding tight to submerged timber in 4 to 6 feet of water. Most were sitting on top of the logs catching a little sun. We caught them on 4″ tubes with no weight, four blade spinner- baits, and Lake Fork Flukes. For the most part, the bite was was very faint, holding the bait in their mouth for only a second or two. We also landed one very nice 14.5 inch Crappie on a Bubblegum colored Fluke (see picture). Would’ve loved to get into some smallies, but who can argue with a great day of bass fishing on April 13 in shorts and t-shirts. This low water sure makes sight fishing the timber very educating. All in all, a great day to be on the river.

Sorry, didn’t think any of our largemouth were “picture worthy”.

Mike B – just kidding around of course . I was interested to see you were using weightless presentation. I fished a senko for a while and got a couple fish, but with the wind I couldn’t keep it where I wanted it so I caught most of my fish with a jig & chunk.

Jeff – yes it was a VERY popular spot on sunday. I guess the low water there is a much more limited selection of backwater areas with enough depth – I did manage to find myself a new ‘secret spot’ though where I caught 4 decent fish and one short out of 1 tree in about 15 mins. No I won’t be fishing the KFAN, its the weekend of the WI inland opener and I’ve got some big lake smallmouth to catch

    Fluke:
would those big lake smallies be on Wissota?
That’s where I will be for the opener.
They should be turned on by then.
