After spending the last three weeks on a mission in Africa, I got my chance to catch up on some of the fall smallie fishing I missed. Fishnut and I had planned to get out Saturday but the snow took care of that. We rescheduled to today but the 20 mph SE winds looking for other options. We decided to launch in Wabasha and work some of the main channel wintering of the spots that we’ve found in the past. The 1st three spots were dry so we decided to go up on Lake Pepin. To our surprise, the lake was fishable. We spent the rest of the day working the wintering spots and had a reasonable day. I wasn’t the best for numbers but the size was good. The one I’m holding went 4-2. Our best 5 would have been somewhere between 18 and 19 pounds. Dragging YUM tubes on the bottom caught all of the fish.

Here is one of Brents Better fish. With the water temps in the low 40 and a reasonable weather forecast for next week looking OK I expect the bite to continue.

    Ike,

I was in Bunia in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The mission was to setup an x-ray machine and teach some nurses how to use it. To give you a sense of where they are, it’s their 1st machine. Things went well but the area needs a lot of help. They have been through a civil war and the infra-structure is a mess. Electricity is off for a while every day and running water is about the same. Roads and airport need lots of work to get the equipment they need.

I know you’re a real fisherman because you haven’t put the boat away and picked up a gun instead! Keep bustin’ em until there’s too much ice to launch
