Fished pool for largemouths today and i think i had the best 3-1/2 hours fishing for bass of my life today. sure i’ve had days where i caught more fish, but this was unbelieveable for the time available. I used a swim jig as my staple tool for the day: blue/white with a 5″ grub. I fished this bait around grass with current and current swept shallow banks to catch hawgs all morning long. Started out pretty quick in the rain. First cast, i missed 2 keepers in one cast…Thats right, 2 different fish swarmed the bait on the first cast but came up short. Second cast, had a 2-1/2 lber in the boat… thats just how the day was gonna be. Fast action. With the semi- clear water conditions, you could see the bass fly out of cover to attack your bait. It was amazing to see. There were many more bass in the area busting shad but it was hard to stay on top of them when they went into a frenzy because they would scatter with the shad. I think i did alright though… With a 4 lber being the toad of the day, i also had a 3-1/2#, a 3-1/4# a 3# and a 2-3/4# fish. Most of the fish were fat and still hungry. I caught one 10 inch bass that had a big shad jammed in its throat still. It was pretty cool. overall it was an amazing way to hit the river before football. Basically, Find shad, find current and shallow water and start searching. It has to be just right though, as i fished 6 different spots today, only 3 of them producing considerable amounts of fish. but when you hit the school….YOU HIT THE SCHOOL!
i don’t got anything else. It was a great day. I need to get a tripod in the boat next time, i could have way more pics and would love to get some pics of the rest of the 2-3 lbers i caught today but just wanted to get a line in the water. Top pic is a 4 lb fish. Next is the 3-1/2 lber.

Cade, You absolutely are made from the right mold. You spend more time on the water than many of the guys around here and likily catch more as well. Keep up the good work. I always enjoy reading your posts.

A swim jig is a spinnerbait with the blades.

There’s not much to them. Cast them out, and reel them in.

lol…Well its a skirted jig, a bass jig, But the head style is different than that of a flipping jig, the head is a bullet shape so it shoots through the weeds easily and gets rid of weeds with a sharp snap of the rod. I use a 5 inch grub and try to match colors to the type of bait i’m around. Check out Brovarney baits and talk to brovarney from here on the site to make an order! These are the jigs that I use and love.

Cade, the way to solve the photo-taking problem when you are by yourself is to use the timer on your camera if it has one. I set the camera on my front ped seat and stand back and let it click. You may have to practice a little to get the right positioning.

Its a spinnerbait with no blades and a brush guard that you can use where you couldn’t use a spinnerbait very versitial bait!id suggest you give em a shot

Keep fishing, it’ll just keep getting better as long as you apply what you learn.

    Cade,

I think you need to get a new scale as well if that top fish is 4lbs Maybe it is the camera angle or Roland Martin syndrom. Just giving you a hard time nice fish!

If you want to keep fishing this much, win the lottery and don’t ever have to get a job. 40 per week at work takes away a large chunk of fishing time. Or you could just be a teacher and keep your current schedule.

If someone had told me long ago, if I worked really hard the first 30yrs of my life, I could do what I want for the rest of my life. I know, I would have done everything differently….

As it is, I let all my hunting & fishing get in the way of the things that mattered, like homework & grades.

Work hard now, so you won’t have to the rest of your life.

    Cade,
You could always be a firefighter. It works really well for me. My wife thinks I fish more than I work. I guess thats cause we work while everyone is sleeping, and fish while everyone is working.

    I already dropped out….
now that school is starting, i relize that i am going to have to put fourth my best effort and get good grades so i don’t have to worry about reduced fishing time on the weekends. I really let fishing get in the way of my schoolwork lastyear and i’m going to fight it this year. I was getting b’s where i should have been getting A’s and C’s where i should’ve had b’s. So I’ll still be fishing, but after i’m done with my homework. 3 study halls every day for the 1st semester should allow me plenty of time though
    thanks for the replies guys.
As far as jobs go…who knows? But my dream is to go pro in bass fishing. I would love to live the life of Tom Redington here on the site. I got to fish with him twice this summer when he was up for the stren. We talked a lot and his life rocks! He fishes everyday and then takes breaks from it to go fish tournies! Being a full time guide on a lake like fork would be awesome. Fishing the tour would be even better.

Hey Cade, keep up the good work… I’m going through a bit of depression due to decreased fishing time as well… but one thing I’ve learned is “you can always make time to go fishing” Have a great year at school… keep me posted
