Got out on pool 8 today for bass before football practice. (starts in 50 minutes) I was very pleased with the results. Started on a grass flat and by my 3rd or 4th cast i had a 2-1/2 lber in the boat. A couple casts later, i had a 13 incher in the boat. I fished some other spots and my motor died… I didn’t know what happened or what to think of it. I was gonna call it a day but then i saw my friend Carson cruising towards me. i asked him for a tow and we decided to fish together for the day out of his boat. Once we took my boat back to the boat landing, we targeted the grass flat again, where he caught his first fish, a 2 lber. We fished arrowheads and eel grass for about an hour and pulled some nice sized fish out of there. I caught another 2-1/2 lber and a couple more fish: a 1-1/2 lber and a 2 lber and a couple small non keepers on the swim jig. Carson also caught a couple himself. I was throwing a gold color swim jig with a wine n’ roses bfishin’ k grub for the first couple hours, then switched to a Gander series baby bass grub. Didn’t seem to matter the color, as carson was throwing a chartruese jig with a white grub and had nearly as many strikes. He didn’t get as many to hang on though we hit one more spot which was stacked and this is where be put some good fish in the boat. Carson stuck a 2-1/2 lber, i stuck a 3-1/2, a 2-1/2 and some other smaller fish in the 13 inch range. It turned out to be a great day. Anyone who is hitting the water, i would recommend targeting grassy areas. Not all fish were caught on straight eel grass…some where on deer tounge and some were around lily pads but the prevailing pattern, the same pattern that we’ve seen produce since june, continues to be eel grass with current flow. I ended the day with 7 keepers and Carson got 3. My best 5 were a little over 13 lbs and carson had probably around 6-7 lbs for his 3 fish. All in all, it was a great time and the fish are in somewhat of a frenzy.Get out there and enjoy it! Top pic is my friend carson with a solid 2-1/2 lber!

and my 3-1/2 lber. This fish was a true freight train in the water. the pic doesn’t do justice as Carson was standing 16′ away when the pic was taken, but it was a nice fish. a little chunkier then what they have been and around 18-1/2″ long.

I give major points for posting the report with pics.
August 9, 2006 at 2:52 am #467592thanks fleck. I’ve been pretty accurate with my weights.plus the tape we were using shows approxamate weights for the length of our fish My scale is way off, i caught 20″ fish this year that were fat and it said 3 lbs. So i don’t really like it that much. Got it for 15 bucks at walmart I’ve also provided accurate information that should give anyone the chance to go out and catch fish. With updates at least once a week from me, people should be able to use my information on pool 8 or any part of the river for that matter and catch fish even if they haven’t fished the miss in weeks.
14″~ 1.5 lb
15″~ 2 lb
16″~ 2-1/2 lb
17″~ 3 lb
18″-3-1/2 lb
19″ 4 lb
20″ 4-1/2 lb
21″ 5 lbObviously weights very as they can be skinny or fat. I’ve seen a pretty big mix of fish sizes lately. they haven’t all been fat and they haven’t all been long. but if they are skinny i’ll probably take a half pound off. if anything today, i’d say i was less than generous with my weights if anything i would say it was over a 13 lb limit.

August 9, 2006 at 4:33 am #467616Not trying to stir up any problems, but you guys and your bickering in the public is really immature and distasteful. If you guys want to knock each other use the PM’s please
Other than that issue, you are doing a great job Cade If I can only find the same areas you are talking about, I should be golden I spent the weekend in Goose Island as well and only managed 2 decent bass That is a big place and one that I need to spend more time in
August 9, 2006 at 11:21 am #467642Take it easy guys. Don’t make me stop the car and come back there.
We’ve all made our points, now it’s time to move on.
brovarneyPosts: 662August 9, 2006 at 11:56 am #467648The area where Cade and I were fishing was not all that big. You just had to figure out where the right combo of eel grass, other weeds and currant were and they were there. It was just loaded with fish.
August 9, 2006 at 1:44 pm #467693Great fishing Cade, you are the man . Don’t let any of this get you down. You know what you have done and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Give me a call sometime. I am working on a youth bass program I think you would compliment very well. I will PM you my number. Think positive and positive things will happen.
August 9, 2006 at 2:21 pm #467706I know what you mean wats, but i wasn’t bickering this time..I was just politely stating my opinion about my accuracy about my fish weights. I could have taken it out of hand like some of the other posts got but i didn’t. As far as i’m concerned, i think its all been said and its all under the bridge. Nick, Max and I already talked things over through PM’s and i think we’re cool.. The second post where i said its all in the post…well thats just a little frustration coming in when people look at the pics and start asking me questions when i already posted all the information. Thats all…
Toad, i got the pm. I’ll call you in a while.
August 9, 2006 at 7:18 pm #467829i didn’t mean to stir up trouble. For all I know i am off with my guesses. Maybee we could go fishing sometime and i’ll bring my scale to check accuracy give me a call and maybee we’ll make it happen.
August 9, 2006 at 7:24 pm #467832AmWatson, from his pictures i can tell where he was. Cade, correct me if i’m wrong, but if u launch at the north boat landing and start making you’re way around goose you’ll find those spots before u get to the bridge? I’m pretty shure so because i recognize that spot cuz nick and i just fished it yesterday, with only 1 hit (we worked over it pretty fast).
Also cade about color, it does matter. I’ve found that the mississippi bass usually like Chartruse, brown w/ orange, and red w/black.

I agree – color does matter… But, the colors you mentioned don’t even find there way into my box!
I think color can often is a bigger factor in confidence, though. I persoanlly find brown or green pumpkin, white, and/or watermelon as the water clears to be my favorites.
Keep the reports and enthusism going, Cade!
As for weights… geez, aren’t we all fisherman?
August 9, 2006 at 7:58 pm #467848sorry max i agree with reel guy on this one your color choices don’t match up with mine either! But I sure love craw colors!

I forgot, it’s August already…time to put away the Junebug plastics.
August 10, 2006 at 2:43 am #467949those aren’t the exact colors i use. The colors i use have a whole ton of wierd names i can’t remember. The colors i listed are a pretty general descriptin of what i use.
