    BassCenter canceled? 8/7/2006
(Posted at 8:55 p.m. EST –Ed.)

Informed sources say that the ESPN Outdoors show BassCenter was canceled effective today. Requests for comment from ESPN Outdoors communications staff were not immediately returned.

When the show debuted in 2005, it was supposed to be the cornerstone of ESPN2’s Bass Saturday programming block. Until now, it was still part of the network’s Saturday morning lineup of fishing shows.

This is the first action that BassFan is aware of since Steve Anderson, ESPN executive VP of production and technical operations, assumed responsibility of BASS and ESPN Outdoors in June and was given the task of conducting “a thorough review of all outdoors operations with the goal of continuing to enhance our overall performance.” Quoted material is from an ESPN internal email.

BassFan has heard rumors of impending personnel changes at ESPN Outdoors/BASS, but nothing could be immediately confirmed. No further information is available at this time.

One can only hope they cancelled Bass Center. I have nothing against Bass fishing (I actually spend a few days a year targeting bass) but I don’t need 4 or 5 straight hours of bass fishing programing. It seems that they show maybe a month of new shows and then repeat the same shows over and over. For what it is worth I think they can cancel Saltwater Sundays too. Now they have switched to Hunt Sundays but again many of the shows they feature are repeats. Just a couple weeks ago they showed the same episode of the hunting show with Cindy Garrison on the same morning. They started the morning with her show and ended the morning whith her show. I would much rather see a mixed bag of outdoor shows. The best way to avoid getting upset with what is on the tube is to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

Maybe ratings would improve if they would put it on when us fanatics weren’t on the water.

It can only better from here. BassCenter was a total joke. Maybe they’ll get Byron Velvet (I know the real spelling) off the air, as well as Mark man Hoser and focus on some real fishing issues.

I agree Ken. I was an addict of the show last fall and winter but now when the water is warm the last thing I do is watch a tv show of any sort. If I am not fishing I am rigging my poles, tackle, boat, or cleaning my boats. TV is for the cold months.

I hear that, I am out on the water by 4 a.m. if the boat isn’t on the water at that time, that means that I am still working, or I am just too dead tired to drive the truck to the lake or I fell asleep at the landing. (done that a few times) but I am out every weekend and can’t wait to get back out again on my way home. but I am usually sleeping from 12 noon to dinner time then its play dad and then go back to bed.
