my club has a tournament out of Prairie Du Chein on 8/12-8/13. We are holding our tournament a month earlier then normal this year. Last year my partner and I won the tournament with a 2 day total of 26 pounds.

I am wondering of different the fishing is going to be during that time. We were catching fish last year on buzzbaits on a main river point. I am heading up next Tuesday and Wednesday morning for some pre fishing. Does any one have any tips on what to look for or what to try?? This will only be my 2nd time up to Prairie.

Also we are able to lock up or down this year if we would like. I am wondering if it would be worth locking up. I am fishing with my dad this year and he has fished Lansing but not in a long time.

Please if anyone has any info let me know (also were could I get a get a pool map)????

i have a pretty vague river map, i got it at Stark’s on Blackhawk Avenue in Prairie, but i’m sure they have got them at Cabela’s.

As far as going up, for pdc tourneys, i stay down. its a lot tougher to get on kicker fish but if you hit your bites you could manage 14 lbs a day/5 fish limit. try around the wyalusing state park area in the wood and grass. frogs and swimjigs are getting a good majority of bites. Most every slough around PDC is above water. Black slough holds a few fish. i really honestly havent done a ton of fishing around pdc, i’ve been concentrating on some other areas around Guttenburg, we hit our 5-12 in the last tourney outta there in a spot that doesnt get a lot of pressure, we got probably 15 keepers plus 4 times that number in blow ups in a very small area. i’ve seen a lot of guys fish the main chanel rocks, i dunno if they’re getting any smallies off them or not.

Are the fish really holding on current right now?? OR is it all back water slop fishing. I really don’t mind fishing either way, but I know last September while I was there the fish were every place the current was crushing the bank.

I had a change in plans and I am heading up on Monday night after work and pre-fishing on Tuesday. I really can’t wait because it has been a long week at work (I work Thursday-Monday)

I plan on hitting alot of areas that look good on the map I found and then go from there (oh yeah I will also have to hit my sweet spot).

Will post results when I get home,

current is key right now in 90% of my spots. some slop spots dont need the current but the eel grass and milfoil points have to have some current to hold the bigger fish.

If you want some areas to try, PM me. i can email you some info or maybe i can meet up with you if you come to PdC and show you on a map or go out and show you some stuff to try. i dunno if ill be around though, so just PM me.

go to cabelas and buy Mann’s hardnose toads and find a slough with current and slop just cast parralle no the slop
    current is the key
if you can get up to the dam you and cast right in to the dam you will get several huge fish i caught 8 ,2 pounders up there the other day

    good luck
