BEWARE – Bass Pro Shops Rewards points

I learned a disturbing fact today that I thought I’d better share. If you have a BPS Rewards Card read on. If not, you can ignore.

In the last couple months I’ve received a few gift certificates from BPS relating to my rewards points. I assumed they were friendly reminders that I had points to spend. Today I learned that if you don’t use them, you lose the $!!!

For example, if you have $100 in points and get a $30 certificate in the mail, and you don’t use it before it expires, you LOSE that $30 for good.

You can call and request not to get those coupons. I did that today and from the tone of the person I spoke to, it sounds like many folks have called and and not been happy about this.

    Just a heads up.

Another warning regarding Bass Pro. My work gave out Bass Pro gift cards as a reward for good work and I was lucky enough to receive one. I ordered some live bait hooks, sliding floats, fly leaders and an assortment of bead head flies. Two weeks later I received the hooks and leaders and they said that the floats were on backorder and the flies where delayed . Another 3 weeks went by and I finally got the floats. After I had not received my flies within the next two weeks I called to complain . It took another week to get them. All told it took me 2 months to get my order that I could have purchased in 5 minutes at any Bass Pro store !!!!! Needless to say I recomended to my employer to quit dealing with Bass Pro and to use Cabelas. I have never had this kind of issue with them.

I love Bass Pro. I order from them at least 5 times a year and make about 5-10 trips to the Chicago store as well. I always love that I get my order within 5 days no matter what. I don’t order fly fishing stuff though .

As for the rewards program, I am actually a prefered platinum rewards member (silver card). I told the woman I was promoted because of my years of service (truth is I think I hit their magical number or dollars spent ). I wasn’t aware of them ever sending me money in the mail though.

I’ve never had a problem with them either, whether ordering combos, wading boots, lures or whatever. Always seem to get here within 5 days with standard shipping.

Reward points, and money back in the mail? Never heard of such a thing!

Had one of those cards once. Now I would rather use either my Citi or Chase card and get 5% back on gas, grocery and drug store purchases and 1% on all else. It adds up faster than the BPS program unless you selectively use your cards.

The Rewards Program is NOT a credit card. It is a seperate card which they swipe everytime you buy something. You can pay anyway you’d like and still accumulate rewards points.

There are also extra incentives as you state which are associated with the Bass Pro credit card if one so desires to get it.

OK, I guess you need to be a retail store shopper to know about this.

Yeah. Unfortunately living 20 minutes south of Milwaukee puts me only 30 minutes from the Bass Pro Shops at Gurnee Mills (North Illinios)… . Many trips a year…

Hey d-nort, actually the rewards points card can be a credit card. For me, I have a BPS Visa, which is also my rewards card. I’m not sure if the coupons were only for those that have it set up like that.

I don’t (didn’t) use credit cards. I was raised up in a family that didn’t. However I signed up for one and put all my gas and monthly bills on it. I pay them off each month, just an added step. Doesn’t cost me anything extra and gains me about $300 to BPS each year.

OK, now I’m thoroughly confused. The reward points program I am in is a little card which attaches to my keychain (or one for your wallet) and it better not be able to double as a credit card. Nothing on it says “Visa” or anything. In fact, I just went on Bass Pro’s website and checked my balance which is $32. If I decide to use that they just swipe my keychain and deduct a partial amount or the entire $32. Once the balance reaches zero I pay for what is left. Then I start buying more stuff to accumulate more points.

I hope nobody has been swiping your card in the wrong places, your bill could be really high! ha ha, just kidding.

We’re both right. The rewards program can be a just the card. However if you sign up for a BPS Visa, they combine the two.

I’m with Fluker on this one. All my bills go on there and I just pay it off every month. It’s the like a 401K towards Lucky Crafts.

Last time I checked, the BPS rewards Visa card pays you 4% on BPS branded merchandise, 2% on all other BPS purchases and 1% on non BPS purchases. See my earlier point regarding cards that pay you 5% on gas, groceries & drug store. Adds up way faster than 1%.
