Decided to start off fishing the wing dams this today. Good choice. The fish were stacked up on both sides of the dams. We started the morning with a 17in smallmouth on the second cast. We were casting to the tops and dragging texas rigs through the rocks. The fish just hammered the offerings. ended up catching 25 bass between all of us, biggest was about a 3.5lb. largemouth that fell victim to a seven inch electric grape power worm. In all 14 of the 25 were legal. Another bright note was seeing a jetski rip the bottom on a wingdam that was out of the water. We tried to warn her, but she just blasted thru.
Unfortunatly, I have to put the boat away for awhile. I met one of those logs that drift down the river undetected. I curled the prop and now I have mega vibration to go along with the missing skeg. It give me an excuse to go out and buy a new stainless though . Thanks Wats for the killer spot that wasn’t killer the day before. They had fun. Good Fishing, Jesse

Tought luck, I think I saw the log in question, was it the one about a half mile below the interstate bridge, it was only sticking about 6 inches out of the water in the main channel, must have been stuck to the bottom because it was in the same place when I left, luckily a heron was sitting on it when I went out this morning. Caught some gills on the wingdams with my son and lost a dandy smallie on my ultralight, my netman is still in training he’s only 4 but I think he learned not to leave the net in the water if you cant see the fish
    How bout them mayflies

Ouch Learning the river is proving to be pretty tough on your boat AT least you got on to some fish I seen your truck at the landing, but I never made it past the Black River. The smallies were on a tear on the sand, but all were pretty small

Sorry to hear the bad news. Sounds like you need to sweet talk the mighty Miss. She likes to play with your head and pocket book . You can fish with me anytime as long as you don’t ask to drive. Good job on the fish though, you’ll have to show me Wats’ hot spots so I can race him to them.

nice job. I had a good time on pool 8 today myself. I have been using completely different techniques than you guys however. I have been targeting quality shallow largemouth in grass and arrowheads with some current present. Even in the heat today, they were still pretty shallow. the deepest i caught one in was probably 6 fow. i ended up catching 10 keepers in about 3 hours of fishing. I had to take a break in my 3-1/2 hours on the water to swim with some girls on a sandbar. It was so friggen hot out today! I did some expoloring and fished a spot where i caught a bunch of fish on last week, but only caught one keeper smallie there. I had 3 keepers with 1 hour left to fish so i needed to get on some fish fast. I quit exploring and fished where i know the fish are and caught 7 keepers in that hour, along with several dinks! It was a good time. A few of the fish were good 3 lbers too with the smallest keeper a 14, all the rest were 15-17 inchers and pretty thick. it was a good time.
    good fishin’
    Cade

PS-sorry, no pics..i was by myself and i have already posted enough 2-3 pounders being held out in my hand…

The log was off of the entrance to the gravel pit. I followed my tracks so I know it wasn’t there last time. Darn submerged debris. Wats, I was on that small wing, we pulled about 15 fish off of it.(and a perch)

Cade, I see you were “expoloring” can you explain this or is it inappropriate behavior.

the area is an area that i have never really fished before just north of goose island where you can get into the gravel pit by those fallen trees. To the left there is a slough that goes to the north and there is a pad field and all kinds of goodies in there.
Toad, was that you i saw last night around 9 pm towing a ranger out of goose island? I was fishing the culverts from shore and i thought that rig looked familiar.
