I will start out by apologizing for the lack of memory and forgetting to take the camera. This happened not only on Saturday but Sunday also.

I started out this last week teaching my 7 yo how to throw a baitcaster, much to my amaisement he caught on quickly. Saturday evening after baseball the boys wanted to go fishing. I loaded the boat and my two boys ages 10 and 7 and headed for Goose Island. We put in at Hunters Point and headed east about two hundred yards. I decided to give both boys a chance at baitcasters and tyed on swim jigs. My 7 yo caught his first legal bass at 14.5″. He hasn’t shut up. His brother also caught his first northern, which by the way I did not know northerns came with spare tackle. This 19″ snot rocket had another swim jig identical to the one my son was throwing. All in all we caught about 3 legal bass, 1 northern, and one nice crappie.

Today we got started about 2pm. we started out fishing Goose Island just south of the camp ground. My 7yo and I quickly got on the board with two great fish, his about 15″ and mine about 17.5″. Now the motor mouth has started again. I think he is going to give KVD a run. We slowly worked are way to the RR tracks and south to Stoddard picking up a few smallies along the way. We then ran up to Brownsville and got back into the Goose Island area. Here we all started catching fish. The boys are hooked. All in all we caught 15 bass in about 5 hours. I just had to share my fun. I am going to purchase a digital camera just for the boat. I now have two awsome fishing partners that are probably going to out fish me.

Happy fathers Day to all of you dads. I hope yours was as good as mine. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

Sounds like a fun way to spend a weekend. I have been fishing the hunters point area and south lately and have been doing quite well. I haven’t gone as far south as stoddard (thats a long haul in my little “skiff”) But i have been catching fish in the stump fields and sloughs around the area. Weedlines along current seems and where two sloughs intersect seem to be the ticket for me with the swim jigs.
    good luck,

    Todd,

Thanks for the report. Sounds like you and the boys had a blast. I’m sure you won’t need to encourage them to get out there again. The camera sounds like a good idea. I/we would love to see some pictures.
