Is anyone else using these on Carolina Rigs? I have a problem getting a good hookset without leaving the hook exposed. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

You could maybe try a larger hook and just skin hook the point on it kinda where the butt crack would be? or shove it all the way through and just barely skin hook it on top, the old Texposed method. The trouble is the sloping shape of the bait, makes skin hooking hard except in the rear of the toad, which is why I was thinking of using a bigger hook.

I take it they can be pretty effective on a C-rig? If your missing fish you must be getting bites!

LOL, just a few. At least I’m not tired enough yet to have tried rigging the baby on a 5/0 Owner!

Joe, I have had pretty good hook up percentages with this setup (see attached picture). Use a # 2 treble hook so you don’t kill the action of the legs.

Joe- I have actually been having the same problem. Maybe you need to lay off on those monster hook sets and just sweep the rod.

    Joe,

How light of sinker do I need on my C-rig to keep my horny toad on top?

    Eric,

That may be part of it because the horny toad is such a bulky bait. I will try it though!

    John,

I have been using a 3/4oz…one thing about the rig though, you may have better luck getting it to the bottom.

Try using a Ribbit. It is made by Stanley. They are a little bit lighter than the horny toad, but it would be a much easier bait to rig for a C-rig. Best of luck.

Isn’t this contrary to the old phrase Tight as a frogs azz?

If you are really using this in a C-Rig then I suggest you try the Berkley Beast. It will solve your problems.

JC! Is no secret safe? I was just thrilled

to tell every one that the fish were coming on a C-rigged

Sammy, and for the very skeptical I was going to say, “All

right it was a C-rigged Horny Toad”. Now you shined the

light of day on my c-rigged Sweet Beaver…Who comes up with

    these names!!!

So got any open dates after the fourth? We can take my

    boat this time.

    JC,

I will send you mail next week. I am leaving to take a
10 year old fishing, in eastern Wisconsin, this afternoon,
and won’t get a chance to talk this out with my schedule
setter On my calendar, this looks good, but I
am not sure it is good on “Her” calendar.
