Well, I started the morning fishing for walleyes. I tried four different wingdams and threw everything I could at every nook and cranny and NOTHIN’.
I was just considering selling the boat and all my gear and buying a nice set of golf clubs when I noticed a little side channel that I’d never been in before. I motored on in and had a strike right away and lost a LM right at the boat on a blue-gill swim jig. I saw one strike happen and the fish seemed a bit tentative. I switched to a crank and then landed two decent LM and a northern.
Things died off and I headed back across the main channel and fished some rocks with a crank and could hardly keep the fish (LM, smallies, and a fat rock bass) off my line. I bet I boated a dozen fish (no whoppers) in 20 minutes in this spot. It was a blast!
To top off the morning, I tried the walleyes one last time trolling cranks and put two fat 17″ers in the boat to be CPRed.
It was my best day of fishing this season.
