Well after sunday nights great action and 2 20 inch fish with 5 other keepers, i didn’t know if it would get a ton better. But i was going to make sure and go fishing anyway. I fished the same type of structures as sunday, trying to see if it would work all over. First i started on shore before i went out in Casey goode’s boat with 2 other friends. We went to fish the same spot as sunday: a bank with a small point near a weed flat in about 4 fow. While we were there for about 15 minutes, i caught 1 and lost 2. The one i caught was a pig though. Fought like a horse and when i swung it on to shore, i swore it was a new pb. Not quite, but still taped out to 20-1/2 inches! It was a monster for sure. This fish had slightly more girth than yesterdays 20’s but still only weighed 4.1 lbs. I’d like to see it up to like 4.10 somewhere in there with a fish like this. Prespawn it very well may have been more than that! Anyway, we proceeded to fish in the boat. We fished in the pits to start, but all we could do while out there was miss fish on short strikes… they weren’t taking it like they were on spot # 1. we tried slowing down, pitching plastics, just couldn’t get much going. I did loose the swimjig that caught 3 fish 20 inches or over in the last 2 days to a northern or something right at the boat that snapped my line. it sucked!!!!!! That jig was BC’s gill if you wanted to know…BC, way to go, thats a sweet color. So we took the boat back to my “secret spot” And tried plastics and swim jigs. My friend carson caught a 16 incher on a swim jig on his first cast. I managed to land a fat 15 after a few casts with a grape worm. After that we didn’t get anything in the boat. We went back to shore and then fished the spot again on shore. I caught a bunch more keepers there too! Time for school…later!

I fished again tonight from shore and found my fish still in their position. I didn’t catch any pigs tonight, but a few good 2-1/2 pounders. it was a fun night overall..wish i wouldn’t have lost my topwaters though to fish, thats what they wanted. the fish i caught hit a swim jig, a spook, and a rattle trap..good way to spend an hour. I may be back tonight with topwater at dusk!!!
June 7, 2006 at 12:00 am #451893Cade how do you get to where your standing without a boat? Walk through the swamp? Or is the path through the woods dry now? You can have the same results right across the water from yah.. if you come in from the rock yard.
June 7, 2006 at 2:43 am #451934sorry lawrence, i don’t know what you mean? you must be thinking of a different location. Sorry, i think i’m going to be concealing this spot. Its a heck of one. The water never gets too high to get to this spot so not sure what you mean.
On a different note, I fished again after baseball practice like i said i might. My dad and I started with topwater and had a few blow ups but couldn’t land a fish. I did have a great smallie break me off near shore. My line must be real weak on my spinning reel.. I didn’t let that get to me. We didn’t catch any on topwater which surprised me, but i was surprised again when my rattle trap was killing fish. I caught a couple real fine 2 lbers, one was a smallie. ANd i managed to catch 2 whoppers as well. These were 19″ each. they were great fish, but their skinniness took away from their beauty. They were still great fish!…

CadeJune 7, 2006 at 2:33 pm #452053Good for you Cade. Keep those spots to yourself. If you found them they are yours. Letting just one person know will likily bring the masses.
jcJune 7, 2006 at 3:07 pm #452066I didn’t ask where you were??? I recognized a landmark and was offering info on the opposite shoreline.. definitely don’t need you to tell anybody where it is especially a shorefishing location.. and like others said good reports and good pictures.
June 8, 2006 at 2:33 am #452240Thanks Lawrence, I know you were trying to help, just didn’t get what you meant, especially when you said the thing about the rocks?
Hey BC: No, this is a slough of the mississippi river…what about it makes it look like a pond? (just curious) Because its a well known slough of goose island, but the only part of it where the fish seem to be is this little bank and one more little pocket on it.
On a different note, i fished again tonight and didn’t do as good as the other nights but again caught some decent fish. My first fish was a solid 17 incher. I caught a couple more that would have been 15 inches. and there were 2 short fat ones that wouldn’t have gone over 14. i only fished from 8:15 till pitch dark so it wasn’t too long. about 45 minutes is all…Thanks for the compliments guys. School ends tomorrow at 11:35 for us…theres a lot more reports to come!!
June 8, 2006 at 2:35 am #452241heres a 17 incher. These fish were caught on a rattle trap and a swim jig.

Cade, I know you spend a lot of time fishing the same areas many times a week which has me wondering…
Do you ever notice previous hook marks suggesting that some of those fish are staying in the area and being caught by you multiple times? Or, do you believe these are all fresh fish which replentish daily on your spots (obviously if there is current this can be very true)? Either way is awesome, just curious what your thought were on your areas…
June 8, 2006 at 12:22 pm #452311Nice work! I’ve been out the last few days…had a mixed bag of smallies and largemouth in some side channels on 8. By the way, I was also throwing topwater yesterday morning (Wed.) and drew blow-ups but no strikes. I switched to a Fluke and hooked up immediately. Might want to give that a try when they do that to you.
June 8, 2006 at 5:08 pm #452413thanks g love. i tried a fluke and a senko at the spot and neither got a strike…:( i thought i would kill them on the fluke. Maybe another day will be better.
D-nort,
No i have not noticed any marks from before. they seem to be new fish. Plus, i have caught 2 20’s in 1 day and 2 19’s in 1 day and i doubt the same fish would hit again in the same day..or would they? I don’t know, doesn’t seem like they are that stupid. I guess i haven’t been looking closely after catching them, but they seem to be new fish.Schools finally out..they are going to be scared now.
Dan, do you have any of those “BC’s gill” swim jigs left?June 9, 2006 at 1:50 pm #452630Quote:

I know where you are…it was just a joke.
flukerPosts: 242June 9, 2006 at 2:55 pm #452653When fish are actively feeding, they will hit more than once, twice, etc. Just last weekend I pitche a senko to a dock end up north and got “bit off”, or so a muttered to my buddy I was fishing with. 3 casts later my buddy lands a nice 2.75 and give me my hook and senko back. The EXTREMELY weird thing about this is the bite off occured before I even set the hook. Kinda like a big pike/miskie bite off. You feel a thump and it’s gone. My line was’t THAT bad I didn’t think. Odd.

June 9, 2006 at 7:22 pm #452752Cool Cade- I never once doubted those were new fish, just wanted to hear your thoughts. If you have a spot which replenishes big fish daily make sure you keep that all to yourself as long as you can…
June 12, 2006 at 1:40 am #453025well i have been up in plover all weekend playing baseball so i haven’t had the chance to post how friday went for myself. Friday was actually a pretty good time. I spent the day with my friend carson and we did a lot of casting swim jigs for largies. I caught one early on a bank, nothing special…around 14 inches. We spent a lot of time fishing weedlines and banks with the jigs in search of fish. I ended up catching some pretty decent fish, switching to a plastic when i felt it necessary, especially along laydowns. the biggest fish was about 16-1/2 inches long and a largemouth, and the rest were decent 14-15 inch fish. I caught 5 keepers and 1 dink. It was a pretty fun time even after getting hit with a 1/4 ounce swim jig in the back of the head on a cast…(thanks carson )
Today when i got home from playing ball, we took the boat out: me my dad and my little sister. It was crammed but we caught fish. I was nervous that the cold front would slam the fish but it wasn’t too bad. I caught a few dinks and one close to 14″ but still a dink itself. I was using mostly plastics today but caught a couple on the swim jigs. I had my sister put on a plastic and explained to her how to fish it/ feel the bite, and before you knew it, she was setting the hook. She still hasn’t completely mastered fighting and playing the fish to the boat, and she payed the price twice on two dinks that she lost. She made up for it later though! I was fishing in the front of the boat, and i look back and there she goes rearing back on the rod like some sort of pro! she deffinitely had a fish and a good one too! Unfortunately she let the fish take the bait too much and this one was gut hooked. We snipped the line and got it back quickly and it made it out just fine. She was very happy and i was very proud of her and her nice 15 inch smallie.
When we got back to the landing, which is close to the hot spot mentioned above, i dropped my dad to get the trailer and i kept fishing. In the short time it took him to get the trailer, i caught 1 more dink and a decent largemouth around 15-1/2 inches. it was a nice way to end the night. I am so happy that summer is finally underway!June 12, 2006 at 1:09 pm #453097hey cade, i wish i could get out, i was doing pretty good on shore all around pool 8, but i am in arizona right now and i don’t know where to fish yet
