Wbsite offers little in terms of information.
Any word on…
Largies vs Smallies?
Pools fished vs rank?
Pre, post, or spawning fish?
Methods?I went down to the weighin, but arrived too early… since my 1 and 3 year old boys, my wife, and the grandparents were in tow… it wansn’t very condiscive to hanging out and chatting with fisherman. Many of you may relate! It was impressive to see 156 boats… Seeing the local fisherman try and launch/pull out their rigs was quite interesting.
May 22, 2006 at 3:36 pm #448093I only weighed three fish for 6-10. Caught all three in the morning and then couldn’t buy a bite the rest of the day. All my fish were caught flippin docks out of the current. I had a huge smallie in practice came on a main river point. I would have tried more of that but the current was too much for my boat. Anyone willing to share how they did?
May 22, 2006 at 4:18 pm #448108I had good largies going on the main river up through Friday. As of Sat morning, gone. Many of the big fish braught in were LM there were some good smallies braught to the scales though. I ended up bringing in five dinks for 8 lbs 15 oz. Very disappointing, but good for some points I guess. I caught most of my fish on plastics pitched to flood timber and grass. I also had good smallies going through Friday and they also left me. Congrats to all of those that did well this weekend. Won’t be long and we will be doing it again on Lake Winn.

May 22, 2006 at 4:58 pm #448115The tournament ended up being a slugfest! Over half the field caught limits. The water level didn’t drop more than 1″ over the 4 days leading up to the tournament so everyone’s fish held up.
The warming trend a few weeks ago lead myself to believe the smallmouth bite might die off a few days before the tournament but it didn’t…
As far as the winning pattern goes, here’s the deal…
The guy who won said on stage that he was stopped twice by fog on the way down to his spot. I fished around Lansing and didn’t hit fog so I know he fished futher South than me. Actually, I just got off the phone with the winner’s co-angler (Matt_Kenseth_17) and he told me they were definitely south of me. The crazy part is, most of the big weights were smallies, but the dude that won and his co that cashed weighed nothing but largemouth. I guess the guy was tipped off by a relative and only spent 1 day pre-fishing… .
The winner then said he caught his fish throwing a spinnerbait around grass and slack water….
I can tell you I was fishing for 100% largemouth. Even though I caught a big bag mixed with smallies in the BLF LAX tourney last year, I truely felt the smallmouth bite would not hold up…boy was I wrong . Because of this I spent most of my time fishing shallow for largemouth. I now would love to whine about the few big fish I lost because of mental errors….but I’m just going to consider it a learning lesson and step it up at the next tourney…
May 22, 2006 at 5:13 pm #448123I caught a few big post-spawn, bloody, largemouth on Wednesday and Thursday.
But Saturday caught nothing but clean, thick 2- 2 1/2 pounders… .
May 22, 2006 at 6:24 pm #448145I weighed in 4 LM for 10lbs even. Caught most of our fish swimming jigs in 2-3 fow. Fishing flooded grass on pool 9 in backwaters. From what I could tell all our fish were post spawn. Winning weight on the boater side came from lower 9. From what I could tell most bags had largemouth, some nice smallies weighed but not many.
May 22, 2006 at 10:22 pm #448239THE WINNING BOATER WAS LOWER 9 WILLN’T GIVE OUT EXACT SPOT BUT YOU COULDNT GO ANOTHER 1/2 MILE BEFORE THE DAM. LOTS OF DINKS BUT NICE LGMOUTH ALSO.ALL ON SPINNERBAITS.NOW I HAVE TO FIND FISH ON POOL 8 FOR MY CLUB TOURNEYS THIS WEEKEND.
I ALSO LOST A FISH THAT WENT A GOOD 6 POUNDS. I HAVE CAUGHT ENUFF 5 PLUSES TO KNOW THIS FISH WAS A MONSTER.I ALSO ONLY WEIGHTED IN 3 FISH FOR 7.13 LBS ON NON BOATER SIDEBomberAPosts: 649May 22, 2006 at 11:20 pm #448259I fished with Jason last summer at our zone tournament. He was one of the most laid back and nicest people I have ever fished with. Glad he got a nice win. Good job to all the IDA’ers that placed well.
Slop, what happened?
May 23, 2006 at 12:48 am #448288Had 13.10 flipping stumps in the flats. Found these fish a week earlier and they all had big bellies, but this week never caught one that had a belly.
May 27, 2006 at 8:15 am #449666I believe the big fish went 4.6 pounds. I had a smallie that was just shy of 4 pounds. From the bags i saw thought i had a chance at big bass.
May 30, 2006 at 9:26 pm #450263I caught a good smallie on tourney day in front of some pros off a dock that i guessed was a little over 3 there’s some big smallies out right now but jeeze i can never squeeze enough time to get out in the boat!
