I take it that in WI the opener means for all species of fish..or at least most. Walleye, Pike, Bass?

Why are MN and WI so far apart in openers for bass? (at least 3 weeks?)

Who do you feel is in the right direction?

The reason, I believe, is that in MN we don’t have bass opener till later to protect them as they are so vulnerable to catch as they are spawning up in the shallows much later than the other species. They are even up in the shallows into much of June especially up north in the crystal clear lakes, they don’t even spawn until June up north of Mille Lacs and the like as it takes the clearer water longer to heat up. Hope this helps a little.

If having the opener early in the season before the spawn even happens is detrimental to the bass population…..why are there still bass in Wisc?

You would think they would be extinct by now.

By that logic, the Mississippi should be void of all bass by now. And we all how know poor the bass population on the Mississippi is.

I could understand smaller lakes where a couple of perch jerkers could go in and do some damage over a few days of spawning, but I still doubt it. Southern states are open year round and they’re not hurting.

WI probably likes the extra license sales from Minnesotans during the gap when WI is open and MN is still closed.

But you can rally the ANTI’s around the cry of “PROTECT THE LITTLE FISHIES”……

They are doing it in Green Bay right now.
