We finally launched a boat Sat on pool 9 to get in a little Bass fishing.
We headed to the all to well known power plant area to find no warm water being discharged. I guess I really didn’t know the warm water ever cooled to the 34 degree point. Anyway I was fortunate enough to catch a few shad on crankbaits. Who would have thought we could catch 1-1/2 to 2lb shad on a crankbait. At one point I had one on each treble hook. It was way to much fun. We soon tired of the shad and unintentionally snagging carp. We tried to find backwater however everywhere we went was iced in. We managed to find one spot about 20 yards by 20 yards and we managed 4 bass in a hour or so. If the rest of the bay would have been open I think we could have done very well.
The boat ride was interesting. We were dodging icebergs all the way down the river. The Ice was really coming down the river. I think big slough must have been moving out because there were 100 yard chunks that I am sure we would have played football on. I did notice the sound of the ice at it bulldozed the channel markers. It was an awesome experience. And just an fyi the water temp everywhere we went was in the 34-36 degree range.

All in all we wore out plenty of fish and broke the ice… (bad pun).
