No open water @ L & D #7. One boat pushed out yesterday, looked like a lot of work. He was fishing and open hole between the first and second wingdams. He had ice above him and below him. Didn’t look like much fun. Although it beats a day of work.

    JC,

I got that info. from a guide in that area who I speak with a few times a year, so I cannot answer that question fully .

He did say that saugers are being caught though. Whether guys are pithing jigs and minnows on wingdams (more open water) or just below the dam (a bit of open water), I’m not sure… By Sunday though, I’m rather sure you’ll have quite a bit of open water.

Anyone from the Dub. area that can help us out further ?

    Thanks,

    OnTheWater

PS JC A little fellow with a caterpillar accross his lip who’ll remain nameless told me last year when I was on his boat that you’re a good hook; so I, of a lesser fame fortune who is a fair hook, would like to fish with you some time. As soon as there’s some good open water, let me know when you’re free, and I’ll make the drive. I’ll even bring some of our fine Wisconsin swill for you to sip through out the day (bribe) .

Point Amber and you can count me in. I wish they sold it locally. It is hard to find a quality beer in this neck of the woods. If I could only get some of your spring harvest maple syrup I’d be in heaven.
I need to relocate to WI.

Some other good Wisconsin swills worth a try are:

Gray’s Irish Ale (kind of a strong Amber colored ale)
    Sprecher Maibock (blond Bock)
New Glarus UffDa Bock (if you like semi dark and thick beers)
Gray’s Oatmeal Stout (if you like REALLY dark and thick beers)

I am just trying to get through this frozen god forsaken pitiful time called Iowa Winters. I figured these will be the first thing to show up on my favorite wingdams so I might as well get in synch with good old mother nature. I was out smallie fishing one last fall and couldn’t keep the eyes off my offerings. The thing that torques me off is that they tear the hair out of my jigs. Durn toothie fish. Anyway the pic will be short lived. I am heading up saturday for some…….dare I say it….. Pan fishing. OK, so I am slumming a bit. I just hope I don’t find myself at Wal-Mart buying an otter tent or what ever the heck they are called. If this happens please stand clear because it is obvious that I am going to snap.
As for beer…. I am not sure IL has any good beer.
You will have to surprise me. C-ya

JC, I AM A PANFISH JUNKIE. IT FILLS THE VOID OF THE NORTHERN ILLINOIS WINTERS. PLUS I LOVE TO EAT FISH, ESPECIALLY PAN FISH. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY END UP AROUND MY WASTE LIKE THE ROTTON ILLINOIS BEER. TONY

PS. IN NO WAY WOULD I TRADE PAN/ICE FISHING FOR THE BASS FISHING THRILL.

Jeremy……….LOL!…………are you saying your “manly stature” is determined by a fish? Swallowing pride like a dose of casteroil because you’re not chasing bucketmouths? You’re killing me!! I can see the headline………..”Man’s Self-Esteem, Stolen by Crappie…………..film at 11″! You’re too much! Tell you what…………..if you need redemption, I’ll get you up this way come fall for some muskies! That oughta get some testasterone back in ya!

    Humorously,

    Funny stuff huh.
Actually I have never really felt an urge to go sit on a bucket out on a sheet of ice. I am open minded so anything is possible.
As for my manly nature…. well , um.. I plead the fifth.
As for chasing musky I might just have to take you up on that. I have never targeted them and understand that the thrill of ther hunt so to speak can be very rewarding. Follows and such are heartstopping… Count me in!!

    You want headlines, how about:

“Iowa Man Loses Genetalia in Freak Muskellunge Accident – Story at 11”

Personally, I’d take my chances on the ice with Ecnook & Crew.

    JC,
I see you have a new photo on this site. Those are some awfully long skinny “bass” you have there!
I share in your eagerness to get my boat wet for the first time this year. Keep us posted if you get your boat on the water. How far are you from Savannah pool?

I love musky fishing, but haven’t had the chance to go in a few years. Have had some huge fish follow and netted a 48 1/2″ for my partner a few years ago. I’m not to snooty to fish whatever is biting well or I have the chance to go after, it all beats working.

I’ve only fished for musky for about three hours.

After about five minutes of throwing a 1.5oz spinner bait at a good looking log, the log truned and snapped at my lure … I was so shocked at the movement, the size and the fact that the log was a fish, that I stopped reeling! A few seconds later, the thought occurred to me that I should indeed continue to real , so I attempted to set the hook and, well, the musky was already gone.

That experience certainly made a significant impression on me…

    Thanks,

LOL! Not AT you though! Just grinning over the way you told the story! I’ve seen those “logs” and they do get mad if you don’t leave them alone………….. sometimes.

Sorry, boys… I’d love to bring you, but unless we’re ready to go to Dryden, Canada, we may just as well stay put, hey.

I was like about 6:30pm in a bay directly across from the boat dock.

I put down the trolling motor, made sure the kid was ready ’cause “dad” was gonna show’em how, and the next thing I know, “sswaaaaaaaaash!” I’m wet, lookin’ like a dufus, and Matt (the kid) was like, holy, sh… shnikes!

Man, we pounded that area for three more hours… Matt’s beggin’ to stay, so we stay a bit more and “ssswwaaaaaaash!” He ties into and lands a 42″ northern. He’s one happy little dude , and I’m running around the boat with a net, heart pounding 240 , trying to help him… It was great! I got the picture at home… I’ll have to scan that puppy and share it with you guys, hey.

    Thanks,

    Hello, all…

I got this from another board:
“TRS- There’s open water from Genoa dam down to below power plant 1/2 mi. downstream. Fishing’s good for ‘eyes and saugers. Best bet is jig/twister combo tipped w/ fathead &stinger hook a must. Wed. 3/12 best bite was in 30-45 feet of water right below dam. Good luck and PLEASE throw the big spawners back. There are way too many people keeping their limit out there every day. Tight lines!!!!!”

Had I know this, I would have gone to Genoa this weekend rather than the Fox in Appleton…

    Oh, well.

    Thanks,

    OnTheWater
