Anyone use these rods before? If so, what are your impressions? Worth the extra 40 bucks over the Avids?

    Thanks.

They have alot of upgrades from the Avid. Higher modulus carbon matrix(SC-IV), AST (Cad engineered linear support at critical stress points) and Integral Poly Curve technology which makes them the smoothest actions out there. Bottom line…lighter, quicker, more strength and sensitivity.
A LOT of BANG for 40-50$…

I have a flippin stick in Legend Tourny and like it alot.Light and strong and it is really pretty to look at. I really like it. I only needed to replace 1 rod last year so I got it. Go ahead ,its only money.

I have the seven foot heavy rod, and I love it. You will be amazed at how different these rods are compared to the avids. I just order the seven foot sweeper spinerbait rod for fishing with swim jigs, but I haven’t received it yet, but if it is anything like the other rod then I am sure I will love it as well.

It is definately workth the extra money.

    Ben:

I was actually going to look at the “teaser” model for Swim Jigs. The St. Croix’s seem pretty stiff, figured I could get more distance with the lighter rod, and still have enough backbone for swim jig fishing. And have a rod to double for use with senkos, etc. Hmm, decisions decicions.

I have a couple Legends and a couple Avids. I love them all. Honestly I probably don’t know the difference or feel a difference with the type of fishing I do. I’m sure there are alot of technical pgrades in the Legends. Would I buy more? Yes. Sometimes just knowing you have their best breeds more confidence and eliminates excuses.

    Moss,

I picked up the Sweeper Spinerbait rod. It is very light! It also is seven feet which I like when I am flippin/skippin swim jigs around docks/timber or even grass lines. The one thing I like most about it was the give at the very top of the rod. That will allow for some give when I set the hook because there is a really nice backbone on this ride.

    What is the “teaser” rod?

Only a few short days till I will be on the water!!!

Guess I’ll be the first to give the Avid a higher grade than the Legend…

I don’t like the Premier-style straight grip on the Legends. I get a better feel with the Avid’s contoured handle. Because of that…I prefer the Avids.

The teaser is the 7 foot M action. Pretty close in specs to the Sweeper, just lighter.

Nort, do you mean the cork or the reel seat?

I just bought my second one. The first is a 7 ‘ Heavy. The new on is a 6’8″ M XF. I took quite some time deciding and I will tell you what sold me.

Go in with someone to look at both rods (I had my wife with me).. Take the Avid and hold the tip to your friends throat and have him talk. Then do the same with the Legend. You will be amazed at how much more you can feel the vibrations. It will sell you on $40 extra every time. I did the same with the $300 rod and did not notice as much of a difference but ther was some.

I had My Wife do the same to me and she could tell the difference and was convinced I should spend more money.. Might be a good trick for that too..

Mossboss – If you’re looking for a great value on a great rod check out http://www.figrigrods.com. Fig Rig builds a great product at a reasonable price. I’ve changed over to almost strictly Fig Rigs the last couple years and really like them. The Extreme line has a good selection of bass and walleye rods. They’re light, sensitive, balanced and have some great actions available.

Take one in your hand if you see them at a retailer. It’s a great rod!

All I can say is I am sure one mighty pleased fisherman with all my spinning and baitcaster rods made by St. Croix. Mine are mostly Avids in spinning [walleye, bass, panfish] and I use the Premiers and Wild River rods from St. Croix for trolling [walleye fishing] Best rods I have ever used. In fact I fell so much in love with St. Croixs that years ago I use to buy the broken rods [tips] that were returned [great warranty] would be sent to custom rod builders when they ordered blanks and asked for them too just so I could fish with St. Croixs before I could afford new rods. Gotta love St. Croixs.

    Thanks, Bill
