Not sure if any of you have noticed, but the water levels around here have skyrocketed in the past few days….I’d say a few feet for sure, as I’m seeing several islands getting flooded out pretty good.

    Let the fun begin

Pool 4 is up about a foot in Wabasha. Looks like they are predicting it to go over flood stage, which doesn’t take alot in Wabasha.

I just saw tonight that up in Fargo there is pretty big flooding. Is this bad news for us in a few weeks? I hope not too much!

I dont care how much the river goes up, just as long as it warms up. this 46 degree water just ain’t getting it done for me. oh well, i had the first bite of the year today. i really wasn’t concentrating that hard, didnt have my line taut enough and he threw the hook. got a good look at him, probably 4 to 5 pound fish. only bite of the day. On a wooded mud bank slough out of the current moving through teh slow. maybe 2-3 of water, in the sunlight.

All the rain this morning changed the river forecast again. Looks like it may be getting pretty high in the next couple weeks.

Visibility was no more than 8 inches on pool 8 today and man was the river rippin’. It was great to be out even on a crappy day like today. Put the boat in at 7th street. It was sweet coming back through the pipe bridge because there was so much current coming through that it pushed my wake UPwards and made it about 4 feet high. It was sweet and i could barely control my boat it was so hard. Anyway, we got it done today. I managed to kick off the 06′ season, and before a lot of the other bass heads on here The water was 44.8 at its warmest. Caught my first fish on a riverside craw along some rock bank in about 6 fow on the edge of some 15-20 foot water. Faught like crazy and wehnt air born but it was only around 13 inches. Smallie was the species today. Yeah it was slow, that was probably the only true bite i had today, although there were a few that were confusing and i couldn’t decide if it was or wasn’t. all i know is that that smallie hit HARD and fought HARD. Bring it on.

The Red River is to crest at Fargo today at 37 feet… Flood stage is 18 there… All that water, plus the Croix, Black, Etc are all headed this way… Hold on, gentlemen.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted… The whole Laurentian Divide thing and all…

While I may not be all that sharp, I still think this represents the fact that there is a lot of water north yet to come.

Thanks, Dan, for keeping me honest… did you know that some rulers measure longer than others?

I noticed that too but I thought I would leave it up to some of the forum eagles.

I made it out on 4 yesterday and there were some full size trees floating down and a few nice root systems kind of idling around in front of Robinson so be careful. Mix in the fact that I was getting pelted with rain as I was trying to drive so I couldn’t see anyway. Probably not the smartest thing I have ever done.

How does one properly interpret the “Hydrologic Summary” found on the first page of the Mississippi River Forums?

I understand Pool Height but what is the Flood Stage number?

I know what Flow CFS is measuring, but at what number is the current a “trickle” and when is it “grab your hat and hang on.”

    Thanks!

    Josh,

Try this link to take you to the National Weather Service’s site which has some good information on river levels. Use the drop down menus to pick your river and location.

Its dependent on the rain fall now. Usually the snow melt is factor but I doubt that this year. It will probably go up and down with the rain storms through early June.
