Another big name BASS pro disqualified this week! Unbelievable!
Alton Jones Disqualified
You know what amazes me, the really poor coverage ability ESPN has on issues like this. I can’t believe they don’t have more than a 30 word article about this incident. The guy was in 2nd place. ESPN and BASS don’t seem to be a good marriage for the fair weather fan watching from the distance.
I can’t believe it happened days after KVD was DQ’d for the same rule….
You can’t tell me everyone didn’t know about the rule after hearing about KVD
Sounds like he broke the rule in practice, just like KVD. Wonder who turned him in AFTER day 1 of the tournament when he was in 2nd place!
According to BassFan the protest was filed and discussed on Wednesday, but no decision made until Thursday. Alton’s was a little different than KVD’s, Alton was driving the boat while his son looked for beds.
They also say that two other anglers were given polygraphs last night related to the same type of complaints.
They both, ( especialy Jones’ case ) look prety innocent to me , at least for DQ-ing them !!Pennalize them both 10lbs.?? I’m sure they are all doing this kind of thing in one way or another in a “sight-fishing “- bed(spawning) tournament. ( I would love to hear the whole story , and also find out who called them in) I vote we make a petition to change the “Golf ” channel to the 24 hour Bassin’ channel Now that would be cool . ** seriously.——<()< yay:
Pretty sad when you can’t take your son along to help you prefish. It’s a new soap opera every weekend.
Tbass
Wouldn’t standing on the front deck using the trolling motor looking for beds be an advantage too? This is a terrible rule get rid of it.
It’s a bad situation. I think KVD and Jones are 2 of the most respected on the tour and all around good guys.
However it seems like everything done in this situation and is correct. Both broke the rules in a manner that put them on an unlevel playing field. No matter how minor that seems, it is what happened. It was also explained that what they did (practice) could have affected all 4 days of fishing, so they have to DQ for the whole 4 days. I HATE it for these guys, but it seems just to me.
I guess this kinda goes back to my comments about those that pushed “How to we grow our sport”. It’s grown alrighty. The boys are fishing for a LOT more $ now a days. More money means more and tighter rules.
Fluker
Kooty and Goose- I would disagree some on FLW vs BASS in this way: When FLW dqs someone they usually dont even say publicly which rule was broken (see tony christian stuff, i cant recall specifically the other one that comes to mind but i know it has come up) and are very vague on what rules were broken. Although I dont agree that a co cant drive the boat, rules and rules and both broke them knowingly or not. Not sure the penalty fits the crime, but at least BASS makes us aware of what the crime is vs FLW who often just lets the issue die. Just my 2 cents, i would agree FLW coverage of tourneys is better overall.
I think the rule about co-anglers not driving the boat is to keep the playing field level. Not all co-anglers pre-fish / Not all pro’s have a co-angler to pre fish. There for those with out a coangler to pre fish would be at a disadvantage. For example in KVD’s case. His co angler could idle through spawning areas at a nice fast pace and KVD could spot out more efficient areas more quickly. The pro with out a co angler is left with trolling motor speed or a less visible view from the drivers seat.
Not trying to pick at anything, just stating that the rule seems like it has a valid place.
Fluker
No matter what we think or say. Rules are rules and if we break the rules, we should suffer for our mistakes. It is too bad Alton and KVD got DQ’d, but they should know better.
I’m not saying FLW is better in any way. I don’t know enough to even speculate one vs. the other. I’ve actually just started watching more BASS tournies due to the ESPN coverage on the weekends. However, what I have seen of their web coverage is garbage. I should have clarified better.
When I went to look for bassmaster results recently, I had to dig forever only to find the info from that day hadn’t been posted yet. Even us walleye guys have live leader boards.
Agree 100% on that one- I thought you were talking about the rules violation stuff. BASS is very delayed other than the live leaderboard they had at the classic- that was nice but also kind of misleading since there was no way to tell size.
