Just some guy who caught some smallies….

Nice fish. The one on the right looks really fat.
Did you happen to weigh it?
March 5, 2003 at 9:13 pm #253680I don’t think we weighted those fish. We were too busy
wearing out the fish, trying to find two worth taking
a photo of. I must admit the biggest fish belonged to
Jeremy, but I am prettier, so I got to be in the picture
with our biggest fish(grin). I just wish I would have
had the green bass that I pulled out of the flooded
brush, with a pitched spinnerbait. It surely would
have riveled Jeremy’s potbellied smallie. But we did
get a number of smallies in the class of the smaller of
the two fish in that picture. Jeremy and I had a great
arrangement. He put us on fish, and I brought the
good Wisconsin brew for the tackle prep time after the
day’s fishing was done.Big Bass Bane
March 6, 2003 at 1:12 am #253691WOW! Great fish, great day, great beer, great guys………………………lousy sweatshirt! Sorry!
I just couldn’t resist!Great catches guys and a nice pic to boot! You two are making me a bit impatient for the spring thaw!
March 6, 2003 at 3:43 am #253697Ken,
Yah, I should have gotten those fish a little farther
apart, so you could see “PACKERS” just so there
was no doubt. So what’s a good ol’ Hudson boy
doing being a Vikings Fan? Must have wandered in
from the other side of the St. Croix(grin). Just funnin’
I fish with the St. Croix Bass Anglers, and I believe
there a few lovers of the Purple and Yellow, in that
club. I think we got the better of this deal though.
We get to wear Cheese Wedges on our heads, and you all wear
funny hats, with blondie pig tails. Looking like that, you
have to be tough(grin). Is it Spring yet?Big Bass Bane
March 6, 2003 at 8:10 am #253705Well, I’m not about to explain myself (takes toooooo long!) but I will let you know that I don’t wear the wig with the pig tails, nor do I wear the traditional Viking clad-iron skirt. Too noisy!
Granted, it took 20 years of garbage to get you 10 decent years of football but I like a football team that can frustrate me to the point of not watching a single solitary play of any game played all season!
Growing up in Hudson, everything from work to play to radio, TV, newspapers, political campaigns……………..it was all MN coverage from Mpls/St.Paul. For years I didn’t understand why we couldn’t be part of MN! So, I’ve always been Twins, Vikes, Wolves, North Stars/Wild………………and the pack couldn’t spell football let alone figure out what to do with one throughout Bart Star’s tenure so going Purple People eater was the obvious way to go. Kids like winners. Adults are just stubborn! And though we “talk”, at least it’s nice to know you fish!
So, how often do you make it to the Croix waters? Do you work the Chip. River a lot?
March 6, 2003 at 1:54 pm #253716Ken,
I fish “the Croix” only when I have to for tournaments.
I like the water well enough, it is just all of the
recreation craft, and some rude behavior that taints
the place. It does hold some nice smallies.I fish the Chippewa often. I live across the road
from Lake Wissota, so I fish the stretch below the Jim
Falls Dam, down to the lake. And I fish Old Abe Lake,
which is just a river section between two dams. There
are some good smallies in these sections, and down in
Wissota, if you know what your doing, there is even a
few good green bass.Big Bass Bane
March 6, 2003 at 5:47 pm #253746those wissota LM must be either pretty elusive or repelled by SM. I’m sure I was out 30+ times this year fishing smallmouth and never even caught an accidental LM. I probably caught 15 accidental muskies in that time. I guess that makes the LM the real fish of 10000 casts
March 6, 2003 at 7:05 pm #253758Mike,
I am betting they are a fish of less than two casts, if you
put it where they are(grin). If you are catching smallies,
then you probably will not catch green bass, but if you
are where the green bass are, you might catch a smallie.
How is that for being mysterious? I once took 2nd in
a tournament out there with 3 green bass, and 2 smallies.
I did get asked a lot of questions about where I found
the green bass. I will talk structure type, cover type,
technique, baits, rods, and reels, but I never talk spots.
Well I might have at one time, but I have learned that
lesson the hard way several times. They are out there.Big Bass Bane
March 7, 2003 at 2:40 pm #253849JEREMY, IF I HAD KNOW THAT ALL IT WOULD TAKE FOR YOU TO PUT ME ON SOME SMALLIES THAT SIZE WAS TO SUPPLY THE BEER, I WOULD HAVE DROVE A BEER TRUCK TO THE LAUNCH. TONY
