Lake Dixon huh? What are the odds that place gets pounded over the next few months?
I agree Chriss, he deserves credit for that.
March 20, 2006 at 11:12 pm #431695The fish of a lifetime, and he blew it.
At least we know the new record is out there, even if his scale was off by a couple pounds.
We can keep dreaming!
March 20, 2006 at 11:14 pm #431696Does igfa have rules on how you have caught the fish. Snagged or not snagged does it make a difference to IGFA. just curious. ike
March 21, 2006 at 2:53 am #431761It’s a shame when a nice fish like that is caught. You can either keep the fish and have it weighed at a scale and it will likely be the end of the fishes life or you can weigh it the best you can and let it go. Put yourself in his situation.
Talk about a rock in a hard place.
TbassMarch 21, 2006 at 3:31 am #431771I cant believe someone (especially obvious hawg hunters like the Dickerson dude with him)would catch a potential world record and not get some accurate length, girth and weight measurements. I applaud him for the release, but if he was with Dickerson (who should know the importance of accurate measurements) that whole deal is a major mess imo. Why they would not at least get some authenticated measurements blows my mind. Ive read before that most of those lakes have scales at the boat ramp and I dont believe Dickersons fish was ever doubted, cant recall how he authenticated it. That bass is enormous!!
March 21, 2006 at 3:38 am #431773There is an article on Bassfan that explains some of the mystery as to why this fish was released without measurements. Apparantly it was foul hooked and the 3 guys had a discussion. Im sure more will come out of this, but maybe they decided since it wasnt legally caught the best thing to do would be to release it.
March 21, 2006 at 6:10 am #431804Is the fish a World Record? IMO Unofficially YES, but there is too much red tape and questions for this to become IFGA certified…
Key factor here is that people saw him catch the fish and then questioned him hooking it in the mouth.
What a toad though huh? He’s caught this fish before….I bet you he thinks he can catch it again…especially if he can see this fish up on a bed
flukerPosts: 242March 21, 2006 at 12:42 pm #431813It’s not the first 20 Lber to come out of Dixon. If I remember right, that’s a T-Motor only lake and it’s VERY small. I assume high $ private launches, but I could be wrong. It’s probably already pounded, but this guys have BIG fish down to a science.
Why in the WORLD doesn’t someone put up a certified scale on that lake? We ALL know it’s likely to happen there, so get prepared!
Lastly, I read an article one time about “What to do if you catch a record bass”. The first thing in BOLD is to be COMPLETELY honest. If you’re not, the whole ordeal like with the world record smallie comes in to play. Leave no reason for doubt and the process and smooth and financially fruitful. Those guys know what they are doing. It probably killed him that he hooked it like that, but he knew what he HAD to do.
Oh yeah, I’ve foul hooked a 2 lber before and it fought like a 6 Lber. Can you imagine how a 25 Lber fought when hooked like that!!!!!!
March 21, 2006 at 1:39 pm #431835All the lakes in SoCal cost $$$ to launch…and they all get the bejeesus pounded out of them. The fish there have seen every lure known to mankind and they are smart.
I’ve personally pounded some of these big mamas on the head while they were sitting on their spawn beds in Lake Casitas (Ca-skunk-us) with 1/2 oz jigs trying to make them angry enough to hit the jig…They won’t do it.
March 21, 2006 at 11:56 pm #432018I know a guy that was out in Cali in the military and he fished that lake one day and had two fish over 10 pounds. He said the lake is bank fishing only, unless you are there early enough to rent one of their boats. The boats used to be row boats and you had to bring a t-motor and battery if you wanted to use them.
I am going to be in that area next year from the 12-18th of March. I know what I am going to do while my wife is busy with her work.
