Road to Rayburn 3/13/2006
The Amistad Bassmaster Elite Series ended yesterday in Del Rio, Texas. But practice for the Rayburn Elite Series in Jasper, Texas began this morning. The two lakes are 480 miles apart. That means everyone who made the Amistad Top 12 cut will probably miss some of today’s practice, if not the entire day. Here’s what a few of the top finishers said of their Rayburn plans.
> Ish Monroe – He left Del Rio last night. “I’ll practice a half-day (today). I broke my jackplate the first day of the tournament. Ranger was gracious enough to overnight a jackplate, and I found a dealer in Beaumont (Texas) to put it on. That gives me time to do my laundry.”
> Fred Roumbanis – He left Del Rio last night.
> Mike Reynolds – He left Del Rio this morning. “I’ll miss 1 day of practice, but I’ll get a good night’s sleep.”
> Greg Hackney – He left Del Rio last night, with plans to drive about 4 hours. “I’m going to get up early. I have some stuff to do, like laundry. I’d be satisfied if I can get there by 10:30 or 11:00 (a.m.).”
> Steve Kennedy – He left Del Rio last night. His wife Julia drove while he slept.
> Kevin VanDam – He left Del Rio last night with plans to drive 3 hours. “I’m so tired from this week, I can’t make it all the way. It’s 8 or 9 hours plus.”
> Matt Reed – He left Del Rio last night
