Courious on how large the bass on the river get. 6,7,8 pounds? Is there records kept on every pool? I’ve checked the wdnr page but that covers lakes and rivers. More specific looking for pools 7,8,9.

Last year there were 2 confirmed LM bass at 6.99# and I believe the other one was 8#. I know there are bass that get to be 8# on pool 7. Not sure on the other pools. Both the above bass were on Pool 7 as well

BassTagger, Welcome to the site. Are you new to the La Crosse area? Anyway, Mississippi River bassin’ is quite a treat. You will find an abundance of 2 and 3 pound fish and they are very healthy. There is great forage too. 4 and 5 pounders are relatively easy to come by as well, especially if you know where they are stacked . I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 6 or 7 pound bass on pool 8, but i think some of the other pools north of us have the bigger ones. Pool 7, 5a, 4, and 2 are pools that come to mind, based on what i have seen here. I haven’t fished 9 or 7 for bass, but everybody that fishes those places has proof that the bigguns are there. I will be extremely happy if i can catch 1 6 pound bass this year on 8. My personal best is around 5 pounds so im looking to upgrade that this spring. their out there!

    Shane,

What’s going on bud? Glad to see you finally made it

Personally, I’ve seen 7lb. largemouth come off of pool 7. I’ve seen 6lb. Smallies and Largemouth from pools 4-9.

    They are out there.

As this post piqued my interest, I went back and looked at last year’s Team Supreme results from the Super North (Pools 7-10 I think), and the North Star (Pools 4-7). Here are the big bass winners and the best 6 fish limit to get an idea of how some of the best anglers do for size.

    Super North:
    4.58-18.57
    4.41-17.54
    4.59-16.44
    4.15-19.37
    5.42-21.76
    5.00-21.71

    NorthStar:

    4.17-19.21
    5.51-15.99
    4.6-17.58
    4.64-21.6
    4.84-20.08
    6.52-22.91

I Didn’t mean that i catch 4 and 5 pounders a lot, but don’t you guys agree that they are certainly not uncommon? my personal best is a 5 lber caught on pool 8, but i catch a lot of nice 4’s down here.. 2’s and 3’s are everywhere in the places i fish. But i always here of guys getting 4 lbers and you here of 5’s on occasion. Thats why i said they were easy to come by. Not saying easy to catch, but they are down there like slop said.

Cade-I was teaching at Longfellow awhole back, you were suppose to come down and meet me. I brought pictures of some fish to show you. Maybe next time.

My best was a 6.1 on pool 5. The first Team Supreme North Star last year, we had a 5.75, 5.5 largies and a 5# smallie. We ended up 2nd with 21.91. Not bad, but 1st looser!

Yeah. The biggest limit I’ve weighed. I put those fish in the weigh tube and went holy @!#$. I was busy thowing them in the boat and livewell that all I thought was, hey, that’s a nice one. The 6.1 I caught the day before a tournament.

That was an awesome tourney or their scale weighed generously. We had Super North weights that day.
