Fed Presidents Vote, Take FLW Offer

WOW…I didn’t expect the decision to be made so quickly….
Looks like Irwin Jacobs (FLW) offered a proposal that included $15 million over 5 years. Funding for Conservation and Kids Programs along with (I Believe??)spots in both the All-American and FLW Championship.

    Reactions??

Highlights of the FLW proposal, as Cartlidge described them in a current BassFan Radio interview with Terry Brown, include more spots in national-level events (the BFL All-American and Forrest Wood Cup) than BASS had offered, and a “Live The Dream” package that consists of paid entry fees into FLW Tour events and the use of a wrapped boat and truck for a year for one Federation angler. Travel expenses would also be included.

Both the BASS and FLW proposals included funds for conservation and youth programs.

I find this very interesting. I have always had respect for the fed guys but the B A S S organization “in my mind” left them a long time ago. Not real sure how a dual federation is gonna work out, but i would be more open to joining a FLW federation Bass club now.

I am sure there a pile af happy feelings rolling around a new hope for the federation but I think we got LUCKY with FLW picking us up. You all know I have been saying this is comming since last summer in my opinion was a beautiful implementation of marketing. The challenges ahead are in BASS’s court and how they implement the new vision created last year. They ARE going to change everything!!! You can believe me now or I see it for yourself in 2007.

The biggest issue I see with the FLW proposal is the lack of insurance for club events. This will be a major issue in MN, as it is required for tournaments by pretty much every county in the state that we fish in. Perhaps the funding that is being proposed will allow individual states to buy it, but I didn’t see that outlined anywhere.

In regards to the additional spots in the championships, personally they could offer 50 spots in the All American and I still don’t think it would compare to the 6 Classic spots. Having been to the Classic, I may be biased, but I doubt anyone on this board could recall off the top of their head who won the co-angler side of the All American last year.

But, besides that, I think the offers (BASS, FLW, bassfan.com) that were presented this week are all a good thing for the Federation members and the sport as a whole. We have obviously gotten the attention of the industry and that should allow us to move upward and onward to better things.

What I heard is that we will still have to pay $15 dues to TBF like we used to pay for BASS Federation dues. $6 goes to insurance just like before. $6 to Divisionals payout and I think $3 to nationals payout.

That would definitely work for me.

    Jim,

You were right about the dues and insurance. Here is the link to TBF’s “Federation First” overview, it includes highlights of bassfan.com’s offer and the FLW offer.
